🌟 Exciting news for Virginia’s rural communities! Last week, USDA Rural Development Virginia State Director Perry Hickman joined us in Colonial Beach to announce the next phase of a transformative partnership that’s paving the way for growth in up to 10 small communities across the Commonwealth. Through a $500,000 award from the Rural Community Development Initiative Grant Program (RCDI), DHCD's Mobilizing Main Street (MMS) accelerator program will continue its work with nonprofits and local governments, creating more market opportunities and strengthening our local economies. 🌱💼 #VirginiaMainStreet #MobilizingMainStreet #USDA #RuralDevelopment #CommunityGrowth #SupportLocal

We're excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Haysi Riverfront Park, a project funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) POWER grant as part of a larger initiative to expand outdoor recreation in Southwest Virginia. 🌿 This new park includes a handicap-accessible pavilion, playground, and river walkway, enhancing outdoor opportunities for residents and visitors in Dickenson County. A special thank you to Friends of Southwest Virginia, and all our partners who helped make this project a reality. Together, we're building a stronger, more connected community!

Fall may be here, but so are applications for ARC's free summer learning opportunities for Appalachian students! 👇 💡 The Appalachian Entrepreneurship Academy, hosted at Appalachian State University, seeks high school students interested in cultivating creativity and exploring entrepreneurship. 🔬 Meanwhile, the Appalachian STEM Academy invites middle school students, and high school students and teachers, to work on research projects alongside award-winning scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We've ensured our partners can safely host camps in summer 2025 and we'll continue to work closely with them as their states recover from Hurricane Helene. Furthermore, we understand potential applicants may also be hurricane-impacted and we're committed to ensuring all students have the opportunity to apply. If an impacted student is unable to make the December 6 application deadline, please email academies@arc.gov. 💙 Learn more about each opportunity here: https://bit.ly/4ebtzId
