About us
Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is Virginia’s only commuter rail system serving the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. area since 1992. Our service reaches as far west as Manassas and as far south as Spotsylvania County running parallel to the I-95/395 and I-66 Corridors of Statewide Significance (CoSS). VRE’s two lines—the 60-mile Fredericksburg Line and the 35-mile Manassas Line—provide direct access to jobs in Alexandria, Arlington, and Washington, DC. VRE provides safe, cost-effective, accessible, reliable, convenient, and customer responsive services to its riders. VRE is jointly operated by the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC).

Yesterday, VRE CEO Rich Dalton joined U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and other dignitaries for a groundbreaking ceremony near the site of the new Long Bridge. The ceremony, hosted by the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), included remarks by Buttigieg, Virginia's two U.S. senators - Mark Warner and Tim Kaine - and two U.S. House members - Abigail Spanberger and Gerry Connolly. The bridge, expected to be completed in 2030, will help alleviate a rail bottleneck at the Potomac River by facilitating the separation of passenger and freight trains.

Manassas came alive this past Saturday, October 5th, as our annual #TourdeVRE broke records and raised awareness for triple-negative breast cancer. With an inspiring 151 riders — doubling last year's turnout — speeding through the 35 & 8- mile route, this was VRE’s biggest event yet! A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors and everyone who showed up and showed out with their families, friends, and furry friends. Your energy, support, and sweat (literally!) made this powerful tribute to Maria Bohigas Foster and all those battling triple-negative breast cancer unforgettable. Missed out? We’re still accepting donations towards the cause — visit: https://bitly.cx/vAul Want to see more photos from the event? Virginia Railway Express (VRE) reposted this
This year marks the 4th Annual #TourDeVRE. This year’s ride covered Virginia Railway Express (VRE)’s #ManassasLine with a ride from Backlick Road Station in Fairfax County to Broad Run Station in Prince William County. Participants visited the communities VRE serves, including Springfield, Burke, Clifton, Manassas Park, and Manassas. Manhattan was a sponsor, and a table was set up to welcome the riders with refreshments when they arrived at the VRE Station in the City of Manassas Park. Our #MidAtlanticTeam is currently building a pre-cast, 735-space garage with a new pedestrian bridge. #BuildingExcellence #SupportingCommunities
