Community spirit was in full swing earlier this month at Gig Harbor's 15th National Night Out! Our St. Anthony Hospital team had a blast joining Mayor Tracie Markley and the Gig Harbor Police Department for this fantastic event at Skansie Brothers Park. From the waterfront views to the lively sounds of Victims of Love, the evening was packed with fun: 🎵 Live music 🌭 Free food & root beer floats 🎮 Kid's games 🤝 Community exhibits It was a perfect opportunity to connect with our neighbors, celebrate our amazing community, and strengthen the bonds that make Gig Harbor so special. Chad Melton, President of St. Michael Medical Center, was thrilled to recently present the 2024 Q2 Employee of the Quarter award to Alex Vaughn, Certified Nursing Assistant. St. Anthony Hospital hosted its first annual Reflections of Excellence dinner celebration in Gig Harbor last month to recognize team members who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to our community's health. The event honored awardees across Values in Action, Great Catch, Daisy, Sunshine, Employee of the Quarter, Hello Humankindness, and other St. Anthony designations. CommonSpirit Health and Morehouse School of Medicine came together to celebrate the inaugural residency class of the More in Common Alliance, a 10-year, $100 million partnership dedicated to health equity and the shortage of diverse clinicians. Eight Family Medicine residents received their white coats at the Hollins House in picturesque Santa Cruz, CA. The speakers at the celebration consisted of a who’s who in health education and hospital leadership. Bookended by Nanette Mickiewicz President, Dominican Hospital Santa Cruz and Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President and CEO of Morehouse School of Medicine, the lineup also included Julie Sprengel President and CEO, California Region of CommonSpirit Health, Michelle Johnson Tidjani, JD, MBA, SEVP and CAO of CommonSpirit Health, and a toast by Terika Richardson, FACHE, SEVP and COO of CommonSpirit Health. This momentous milestone and the residents who matched are a symbolic signaling that CommonSpirit Health and Morehouse School of Medicine are “walking the walk” when it comes to advancing health equity by increasing the availability of well-educated, well trained, underrepresented medical providers. This class is the first of many that represents a new frontier in physician training. Morehouse School of Medicine, defines health equity as, “giving people what they need, when they need it, in the amount they need it, in order to enjoy their optimal health.” Training culturally humble healthcare providers from diverse backgrounds who are prepared to serve historically underserved communities is a crucial step in achieving health equity.
