After 17 yrs of litigation, #Chiquita Brands International has been found liable for financing a paramilitary death squad that murdered innocent civilians. Chiquita gave more than $1.5 million to the death squads that killed thousands of people. The jury awarded $38 million to 8 plaintiffs, but many more have yet to go to trial. This is just the beginning. "This verdict sends a powerful message to corporations everywhere: profiting from human rights abuses will not go unpunished," says Marco Simons, General Counsel for WGF partner EarthRights International.
