About us
The Heising-Simons Foundation supports its many partners to advance sustainable solutions in climate and clean energy, enable groundbreaking research in science, enhance the education of our youngest learners, and support human rights for all people. We envision a world where people are free to live whole, safe, and dignified lives; all children have access to opportunities that support them to thrive in school, at home, and in the community; scientists encounter and benefit from a more inclusive, robust, and innovative physics and astronomy community in the U.S.; and energy is clean, affordable, safe, and reliable for all. The Heising-Simons Foundation's Science program has awarded a $2 million grant to Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) to provide the astronomical community access to LCO’s unique network of robotic telescopes for the next four years. As Program Officer Gabriele Betancourt-Martinez, Ph.D. says in her blog post, "providing open access to the LCO network for all astronomers, regardless of institution, at a time when the field of time-domain astronomy is blossoming, not only benefits the scientific community, but also strengthens the impact of LSST by allowing a greater breadth of ideas to come to fruition."
