Meet Harmony Li, Associate Technical Supervisor “Being able to help artists achieve their creative vision through technology at scale is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. As someone who was drawn to this industry because of the blend between art and technology, it is rewarding when you can see the work that artists are able to produce as a result of the work we do. I first started going to SIGGRAPH ten years ago, and seeing the work that was presented and shared was what convinced me that I wanted to do this type of work. I hope that I am able to inspire others as I was inspired, and to contribute to the collaborative community that we have in this industry.” Connect with Harmony this week at SIGGRAPH! Meet Emily Vo, General TD “As a Technical Director, I work closely with artists to develop show-specific workflows, or to help fix issues that might be blocking an artist from finishing their work on the movie. Each problem a TD gets to dig into is a lot like a puzzle, and we get to learn a lot on the job, since we pick up issues across different departments everyday. I feel lucky that I work with some of the most talented people in technology and artistic production. I learn a lot from everyone I talk to everyday, and I like that my job entails helping them however I can.“ Connect with Emily this week at SIGGRAPH! Learn more http://di.sn/6003GoVVh

Meet Brent Burley, Principal Engineer - Software “As a Principal Software Engineer, my primary focus is supporting and enhancing Disney's Hyperion Renderer which we use in producing the final images for all of our features and shorts. My day to day tasks vary from brainstorming with artists to exploring and experimenting with new techniques, as well as all of the usual tasks associated with software development. I find it most rewarding when I can use technology to improve the life of artists in a substantial way. This could be to help them do their tasks more easily, but it is even better when I can enable them to achieve something they couldn't do before.” Connect with Brent this week at SIGGRAPH! Meet Marie Tollec, Effects Animator “I’m an Effects Animator at Disney Animation, usually working on water, magic, fire or destruction. Our effects are usually based on physical phenomena like smoke or fire then stylized and refined to work with the 12 principles of Animation. On Wish, we experimented with Disney Research on VNST technology, which allowed us to to further stylize our dry ice smoke simulation to add our own drawing patterns in it and make it even more complementary to the 2D effects animation.” Connect with Marie this week at SIGGRAPH!
