They took advantage of someone suffering from addiction, offered dangerously high doses of Ketamine, and had the medication administered by someone who was not clinically trained. Ketamine, when offered under supervision, at the appropriate dose, and in a controlled setting, can be incredibly therapeutic for certain psychiatric illnesses. We (Washington Interventional Psychiatry) have been incredibly impressed with its efficacy in treating depression over 5 consecutive days of treatment (yet remain incredulously unimpressed by insurers covering only one treatment per day).

I was lucky enough to be featured in Newsweek this month discussing Pixar’s Inside Out 2, particularly the character Ennui. Ennui is a French term defined as “boredom or lack of care”, and is depicted in the film as a teenage emotion that is often not interested in day-to-day events. My take of Ennui is that it is a defense mechanism that protects teens from being too invested in something that could let them down, like school work, making friends, or finding romantic partners.
