Last week, Shamiso Moyo, We Care Solar's Zimbabwe Senior Country Programs Manager, attended the inaugural Climate and Health Africa Conference in Harare. The conference, hosted by The Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Research Zimbabwe (CeSHHAR Zimbabwe) in collaboration with Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Wildlife, spotlighted the vital intersection of climate change and health across Africa. Opened by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde E. D. Mnangagwa, the conference featured engaging discussions through oral and plenary sessions. The event concluded with the adoption of the Harare Declaration, a significant framework designed to strengthen climate resilience within health systems and address the severe health impacts of climate change across the continent. Health ministers, scientists, policymakers, and delegates from 51 countries — including 34 African nations — endorsed this strategic declaration to guide African countries forward. “As a continent on the frontlines of climate change, Africa should no longer be a passive recipient of global solutions, but a proactive architect of its own future systems for better health and wellbeing, shaped by further prioritized role given to scientific, local and traditional knowledge generation, scale-up of innovative solutions, and policy leadership,” stated the declaration, as presented by Professor Guelaio Cisse from the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques (CSRS) in Côte d'Ivoire. We Care Solar remains dedicated to advancing health, education, and gender equality through sustainable solar energy solutions in health facilities worldwide. #ClimateAction #HealthAndClimate #WeCareSolar #CHAC24

At the 4th National Annual Safe Motherhood Conference in Uganda, our team members, Phionah Abaho and Katungi Muhwezi Ambrose, joined a powerful gathering led by Uganda's Ministry of Health to advocate for sustainable maternal and child health. Held Oct 29-31 under the theme "Strengthening Community Engagement for Sustainable Maternal and Child Health," the event brought together experts, government leaders, and civil society to reflect on progress and tackle ongoing challenges. Keynote speaker Professor Jean Chamberlain Froese highlighted the enduring commitment required to protect mothers' lives. Citing Dr. Mahmoud Fathalla, she underscored that maternal mortality often stems from societal neglect rather than incurable disease: "Women are not dying because of diseases we cannot treat. They are dying because societies have yet to make the decision that their lives are worth saving." Together, we are working towards a safe future for every mother and child. #SafeMotherhoodConference #LightEveryBirth #MaternalHealth

At We Care Solar, we’re honored to see how our mission of bringing life-saving solar electricity to maternal health clinics continues to inspire others. This story of Amy Dornbusch's journey to Zimbabwe with We Care Solar with her daughter and mother beautifully captures the profound impact of hands-on philanthropy and the power of generational learning. Through the generosity of Marks Family Foundation and our broader community of donors, we are equipping the next generation of changemakers to make a difference! #GlobalImpact #WeCareSolar #AtlasDaughters

Last week, We Care Solar hosted a forum at the Tanzania Health Summit to address the vital issue of health facility electrification in Africa. In Tanzania, many clinics operate without reliable power, affecting patient care and outcomes. Our forum brought together healthcare professionals, government officials, and community leaders to explore sustainable solutions for electrifying health facilities. Key topics included technological innovations, the role of private-public partnerships, and strategies for creating long-lasting electrification systems in health facilities. We were privileged to have insightful contributions from: Dr. Rashid Said Mfaume – Director of Health, Social Welfare, and Nutrition at PORALG, who moderated the forum. Dr. Katungi Muhwezi Ambrose – Africa Regional Director at We Care Solar delivered the keynote on strengthening health systems. Pamela Rwezaura – Tanzania Country Program Manager at We Care Solar, leading the implementation of Light Every Birth throughout the country. Dr. Benatus Sambili – Country Director at SolidarMed Tanzania, sharing expertise on healthcare innovation. Dr. Omari Sukari Nigura – Regional Medical Officer for Geita, offering insights on regional health service implementation. Immaculata Charles – Senior Nurse/Midwife at Kamena Dispensary in Geita District, sharing insights on her experience delivering healthcare services with limited electricity. Together, we’re paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future in healthcare. 💡 #TanzaniaHealthSummit #SustainableHealth #Electrification #WeCareSolar #SolarSuitcase #HealthcareInnovation

We’re thrilled to share that GroundWork Renewables took on the 42nd annual LoToJa Classic, cycling to raise funds for We Care Solar! Their incredible effort will help light 4 health clinics in Nigeria, providing Solar Suitcases® to ensure safe, reliable maternal and newborn care. In regions without electricity, every Solar Suitcase empowers midwives and doctors to deliver life-saving care. A single clinic serves an estimated 540 mothers and newborns each year. Thank you to GroundWork for supporting our mission to #LightEveryBirth! #SolarForHealth #LoToJaClassic #WeCareSolar
