It is with deep sadness that Public Health Solutions (PHS) announces the passing of Dr. Raymond Fink, distinguished health research administrator and longtime and devoted member of our Board from 1973 to 2016 and its Chairman for many years. His impact on our organization and on the communities we serve will be long felt. Ray headed our Institutional Review Board (IRB) for many years, ensuring that each study within the community was carried out with the utmost integrity, relevance and respect. His visionary leadership led to PHS’s bold decision to take responsibility for receiving and subcontracting State and federal funds for HIV AIDS to community organizations, an endeavor that initially faced skepticism and faced scrutiny from both government and the community groups. Despite the challenges, thanks to Ray’s commitment, this initiative became one of PHS’ largest service ventures and became the foundation for the organization’s extensive work in community health today. Ray’s passion for community health and for community based research was evident in all he did, inspiring countless colleagues and mentees. His legacy of compassion, commitment to community and dedication to advancing equality in health services will live on in PHS’ work and the lives he touched. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ray’s family and all who knew and admired him.

Our Nurse-Family Partnership program provides free, personalized home visits to first time moms, offering families the support and resources needed to build healthier futures. "It has been such an honor to work as an NFP nurse in our community and witness our clients flourish as parents," shares NFP nurse Stephanie Guerrier. "I have the privilege of sharing such intimate time with our families, such as discussing pregnancy-related topics, offering assistance and education on breastfeeding, and watching a toddler take their first steps." Through strong relationships, our #NFP nurses bring essential support, education, and encouragement to each family. "As much as I educate my clients and babies, they teach me so much as well - how to be resilient, overcome trauma, and stay positive and hopeful through it all. I am so fortunate to be a part of my NFP team, and I look forward to empowering many more families in our community," Stephanie reflects. Public Health Solutions is incredibly proud of our dedicated nurses like Stephanie, who make a lasting impact on families in our communities. Tomorrow, October 31st, is the last day to vote for Nurse-Family Partnership to win an The Anthem Awards Community Voice Award. Every vote counts! Click here to vote for NFP: https://bit.ly/3Ns4iOW

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Unfortunately, access to healthcare plays a significant role in a person's ability to receive early detection and treatment for breast cancer. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 49% of uninsured women delayed or went without care due to cost. At PHS, we are committed to closing this healthcare access gap and promoting health equity. For over 20 years, our health insurance enrollment program has been helping New Yorkers obtain free or low-cost coverage. Our Health Insurance Navigators and Facilitated Enrollers provide personalized assistance to help you find the best plan for your needs. Together, we can create a more equitable healthcare system.
