Celebrating Women's History Month: Honoring Healthcare Heroes This Women's History Month, we'd like to take a moment to put the spotlight on some of the incredible women who have transformed healthcare and continue to drive innovation: 👉 Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States, paved the way for women in medicine. 👉 Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler became the first African American woman physician in 1864, breaking barriers in healthcare access. 👉 Dr. Virginia Apgar revolutionized newborn care with the Apgar Score, saving countless infant lives worldwide. 👉 Dr. Helen Taussig co-developed the first successful surgical treatment for "blue baby" syndrome, advancing pediatric cardiology. Today, women make up nearly 70% of the healthcare workforce, leading groundbreaking research, developing life-saving treatments and providing compassionate care in every medical field, including health insurance. What an amazing day meeting so many people within the Stoneham community who came out to donate blood for pediatric patients in need at Boston Children's Hospital. We worked with the dedicated team at the BCH Blood Donor Center to bring the Bloodmobile to Stoneham High School. Gratefully, we booked every time slot! Inside at registration, blood donors received a bag full of information on rare diseases and what local resources are available within their community.
