Westchase District has been awarded by the West Houston Association (WHA) for the Walnut Bend Lane Reconstruction Project, receiving recognition through the WHA’s Mobility Recognition Program. This program celebrates transportation projects that enhance safety, connectivity, resiliency, economic development and community integration across the region. The Walnut Bend project transformed a 1.1-mile stretch between Westpark and Westheimer, improving walkability, multimodal transportation options, and safety. Key features included roadway reconstruction, utility upgrades, new bike lanes, wider sidewalks, functional landscaping, lighting, pedestrian crossings connected to the trail system, and upgraded bus stops. Jim Webb, MPA, AICP, ENV SP, CEO of The Goodman Corporation and WHA board member, presented the award. During his presentation, he praised Westchase District for the project, saying, “The project helped to create an area identity and character, while creating a true ‘complete street.’ Walnut Bend’s successful project has increased area property values, improved multifamily occupancy rates, and enhanced overall community well-being.” The project also incorporated context-sensitive design elements such as wayfinding signage, improved crosswalks, and an increased tree canopy. “By recognizing projects like Walnut Bend, we are promoting a culture that values transportation improvements and encourages continued investment in our region’s mobility infrastructure,” Webb added. #WestchaseDistrict #HoustonGrowth #HoustonInfrastructure #MobilityHouston #CompleteStreets #BikeHouston #WalkableHouston #HoustonCommunity #PublicSpaces #HoustonTrails #UrbanDevelopment #HoustonBusiness #EconomicDevelopment #CityPlanning #TransportationInnovation #HoustonConstruction #ResilientHouston #SafetyFirst #HTXProud #BuildingHouston

Harris County Commissioners Court approved two Interlocal Agreements this week between the County and Westchase District as part of the "Places 4 People" initiative through the Office of Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4. One agreement codifies the County’s $8.7 million investment in rebuilding Meadowglen Lane between Rogerdale Road and Woodland Park Drive. This 1.3 mile road will be completely rebuilt, similar to Walnut Bend Lane. The second agreement finalizes the feasibility study that the County will lead for a shared-use Promenade between Elmside and Briarpark Drives, just south of Westheimer. Westchase District and the County will split the $3.5 million total cost of this project. Speaking on the Places 4 People initiative at the Commissioners Court, Commissioner Briones exclaimed, "I am excited because in total, over the 32 projects, it's $88 million from Precinct 4 with $82 million in partnership dollars. So it's all about leveraging to get more done for the people." #HoustonTX #WestchaseDistrict #HoustonDevelopment #CommunityBuilding #WalkableHouston #UrbanPlanning #HoustonGrowth #Infrastructure #PublicProjects #CityImprovements #CommissionerBriones #HoustonStreets #HarrisCounty #HoustonPrecinct4 #TXInfrastructure #HoustonUpdates #LiveWorkPlayHTX #CommunityEngagement #HTX
