This week, National Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week, we celebrate the important role our Plant Operations team plays in ensuring a safe and efficient environment for our patients, residents, visitors and staff. Responding to more than 150 calls a week, our amazing Plant Ops experts — from steam operators and HVAC techs to mechanical technicians and maintenance coordinators — keep Wesley hospitals running smoothly! "I am most proud of how this entire team comes together to respond to emergencies, how efficiently they respond to blocked rooms for maintenance, and how quickly they resolve those maintenance issues to be ready for the next patient," Market Director Kitti Ploughman said. "The Plant Operations team is a crucial element in keeping Wesley open to our community, making possible the healing and support Wesley is able to give Wichita’s residents."

Kudos to Wesley Healthcare and the community for a successful Crush the Crisis event on Saturday with the Wichita Police Department. The drop-off site at Wesley Medical Center had to shut down an hour early because organizers ran out of DEA-approved containers. In all, 112 pounds of old prescription drugs were safely discarded by the community at Wesley!

Amazing Pharmacy Services fact: The Wesley Pharmacy team has dispensed more than 3.2 million medication doses in the past 12 months! This week, Pharmacy Week, we celebrate the work of our pharmacist specialists, advanced clinical pharmacists, operational pharmacists, pharmacy technician coordinators, pharmacy technician specialists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy buyer, pharmacy interns, pharmacy PGY1 residents, pharmacy PGY2 critical care residents, and pharmacy managers. "I chose pharmacy because I wanted to help people the same way I was impacted with my own struggle with cystic fibrosis and parents who struggled with chronic health conditions," said David “DJ” Rossiter Jr, pharmacy technician coordinator. "Being a pharmacy technician has helped me help others the same way I was helped!" Our Pharmacy Services experts have made more than 130,000 interventions for patients in the past 12 months, including consults, modifying medication regimens, non-medication interventions, and more. The Wesley team boasts 11 publications in the last year that help drive change and contribute to the available literature for everyone. "I love being a pediatric pharmacist because of the daily collaborative efforts with the multidisciplinary team to solve challenges that are associated with taking care of sick children," said Lela Hernandez, pediatric pharmacist coordinator. "The reward of witnessing these children get better is the best motivation!"
