Did you know that wood products continue to store carbon for their useful life and beyond? The solid and engineered wood products we made in 2023 alone will keep an average of 10 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent out of the atmosphere over the next 100 years. That’s the equivalent to the carbon emission from 1.3 million homes’ energy use each year. Through the cycle of harvesting and replanting, wood products from sustainably managed forests are part of an ever-increasing equation that pulls carbon out of the atmosphere over time. Our Giving Fund Committee in Lebanon, Oregon, is proud to support Native American students in engaging with their culture through a Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund grant. Administered by the Lebanon Community School District (Oregon), the program offers opportunities for students and families to connect with their heritage through events, workshops and mentorship. Recently, students created shirts to commemorate Orange Shirt Day, along with ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts and traditional bone pipe necklaces. For many Native American cultures, ribbon skirts represent the sacredness of women and the cycles of life, and they remain an important symbol today. Students now wear ribbon skirts and bone pipe necklaces during ceremonial events and at school to express their cultural pride. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Earlier this year, a Fairfield, Idaho, organization called Camp Rainbow Gold Inc introduced a bold idea: to build six cabins in just three days to increase the safe and accessible housing options at their medical camp, Hidden Paradise. “Camp Rainbow Gold’s mission really resonates with us,” says Melinda Stiefel, Distribution marketing and branding manager and chair of our Boise distribution center’s employee-driven community engagement group. “We’re thrilled we were able to play a role in making Project Gold a reality.” Thanks in part to a donation from Weyerhaeuser, Hidden Paradise has more housing available to pediatric cancer patients, their families, and thousands more Idahoans each year so visitors of all ages and abilities can immerse themselves in nature. Kevin Kirby, a dryside superintendent at our lumber mill in Bruce, Mississippi, came to Weyerhaeuser from the furniture industry. He had some familiarity with wood from all his time working in furniture, but the overall lumber process at Bruce — including our major focus on safety — was brand new to him. One constant, though, has been Kevin's commitment to his team. “I work hard to get to know a person as much as I can, which helps me better understand what motivates them or what's causing an issue," he says. "Sometimes it can be stuff that’s not even work related. Once you understand them, then comes the fun part: watching them grow.” For this commitment to empowering people, Kevin was recognized with a 2023 Wood Products Award for People Excellence. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #meetourpeople https://lnkd.in/eTchVXyD

Congratulations to the raw materials team at our MDF plant in Columbia Falls, Montana, for being this year’s recipient of the Governor’s Forest Products Award. The award recognizes individuals or organizations for their responsible management of Montana’s forestlands and is given annually during #NationalForestProductsWeek. Weyerhaeuser team members Milo Funk, Zack Miller, Shaney Neuharth and Jacob Parent were honored for their “exceptional leadership and dedication” to the forest products industry by Gov. Greg Gianforte during a presentation this week at the plant. https://lnkd.in/eEAHsYWY

Did you know that trees are about 25 percent carbon by weight? That’s why forests are one of the most effective tools we have for mitigating climate change right now. At Weyerhaeuser, our continuous cycle of growing, harvesting and replanting trees ensures billions of tons of carbon dioxide remain stored in our forests — and out of the atmosphere — both now and for decades to come. During #NationalForestProductsWeek, we celebrate the people behind our forest and mill operations who work hard every day to deliver the wood products that are essential to daily life. Clif Homan has been a machinist at our sawmill in Millport, Alabama, for 50 years and counting. But he's not ready to retire. Instead, he's passing his knowledge, work ethic and safety commitment to the next generation — and continuing to build on the skills he's learned along the way — to ensure we're able to provide high-quality, sustainable forest products for years to come. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay https://lnkd.in/e-iGBij4

In the rural community of Dubach, Louisiana, the local Boys and Girls Club provides children a safe place to learn and grow. The club's impact will soon increase thanks to a recent $10,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. The money will be used for staffing and program supplies. Inventory forester Scott Leachman, who chairs the local Giving Fund committee from our Ruston Timberlands Office, says giving back is the best part of his job. "The timber industry happens in our rural communities," he says, "and the people that live there and work there and go to school there are the ones that we want to turn around and support." #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #givingback https://lnkd.in/eqetHA3D
