Yesterday was an important day for Microwave Dave--and boy did we celebrate at the 10th annual Microwave Dave Day benefitting the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation! But we did want to let y'all know that it was ALSO WLRH's 48th birthday! We were the very first public radio station in the state of Alabama, and we are still supporting our community 48 years later. THANK YOU! #publicradio #birthday #WeLiveRightHere #WeLoveLocal

Open to students of all ages who are pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree, as well as those who have already graduated earlier in 2024. This means that if you're a recent grad, you can still enter! “Whether you're a seasoned student journalist working on a thesis project, or a math or science major recording your first podcast in your dorm room — we want to hear from you.”
The NPR College Podcast Challenge is back for its fourth year, with a $5,000 cash prize. And the opportunity to have your voice, your story, reach the NPR audience and beyond. Share this with any college students you know!

What a fun time with so many talented marching band folks this weekend! And our community really showed up to support—even some of our listeners who had no affiliation with any of the bands competing! John Hightower (host of our weekly Saturday wind band show ‘Brass, Reeds, and Percussion) was an emcee, Dorrie Nutt collected audio for some audio postcards, and Brett Tannehill and Elaine Oakes chatted with attendees. What dedication marching band requires—congratulations to Sparkman High School for coming out on top, and thanks to Alabama A&M for putting on a great show! (Check out all the sponsors too.) #marchingbandrocks #publicradio #WeLiveRightHere #WeLoveLocal

Friday the 13th was a LUCKY day for Julie Williams and Katy Ganaway as they got to attend HATCH luncheon. HATCH Program Director Victoria Jones says of the event: "Our luncheons are held to best engage city leaders and community supporters; our luncheon is both curated and prepared by our Chef and our Hatchlings, ahead of their externships and graduation." Here are some of their "HATCHlings" wearing WLRH aprons and some pictures of the beautiful presentation. Congratulations! #publicradio #WeLiveRightHere #WeLoveLocal #HATCH #lifeskillsthroughknifeskills

Thank you The Scout Guide Huntsville--"VOICES OF HUNTSVILLE"! In this month’s Voices of Huntsville, we hit the airwaves of radio and listen to Katy Ganaway share why she believes “Our Voices Are Powerful.” Listen Here: https://lnkd.in/g8V8PB23 ABOUT KATY GANAWAY At WLRH 89.3 FM/HD, Katy Ganaway wears many hats—mainly hosting All Things Considered, Morning Edition every Friday, and producing an original WLRH program, Arts Underground. On the WLRH airwaves, you may have heard her interviews and feature stories, investigating various aspects of the human experience, including art, health, history, education, and unique perspectives in creativity in the Tennessee Valley. She was also recently promoted to the position of News Director and Program Director, previously having served as a Radio Program Producer. Her goal is to give a major platform to the voices of the members of our community who are doing wonderful things and giving back. That may be inviting local historians to share a new, golden nugget of north Alabama history, or spotlighting the incredibly talented folks in Huntsville’s local comedy and music scenes. #publicradio #WeLiveRightHere #WeLoveLocal
