About us
In countries affected by conflict and war, Women for Women International supports the most marginalized women to earn and save money, improve health and well-being, influence decisions in their home and community, and connect to networks for support. By utilizing skills, knowledge, and resources, she is able to create sustainable change for herself, her family, and community. Since 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) has provided women survivors of war, and conflict with resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. WfWI delivers these resources through a tiered, yearlong program that begins with direct financial aid and emotional support. Participants also learn about their legal rights; receive life-skills training such as health awareness, numeracy, budgeting and saving, decision-making and negotiation, and civic participation; learn business and vocational skills; and gain access to income-generating activities where they can apply those skills and begin moving towards economic stability. Along with helping more than 478,000 women in the past 20 years to rebuild their own lives and those of their families and communities after war, WfWI uses its voice to call global attention to the unique role that women play in advancing peace throughout society. WfWI works in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Sudan. To learn more, please visit www.womenforwomen.org.

As a next step in the organization’s strategy to shift power and resources and diversify its leadership, Women for Women International will be launching a recruitment for an International CEO with roots in the regions in which we program. To make way for this change, Laurel Adams will be stepping down in January 2025 after having served as CEO for nine years. Under Laurie’s leadership, the organization has close to doubled its revenue and expanded its footprint from 8 to 17 countries. Over 30 years, WfWI has reached over 579,000 women survivors of war equipping them with the resources, skills and knowledge to rebuild their lives, families and communities. WfWI offices in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Kosova and Rwanda have successfully transitioned to independent sister organizations with their own Boards and leadership. The organization also went through a rebranding exercise and shifted from a US-dominated headquarters to a Global Support Center (GSC) comprising of globally dispersed cross-geography teams aligned to best support women in its programs. Marie Clarke, who has served as Chief Program Officer for over four years, will serve as Acting CEO from January 1 until a new CEO is appointed.

On this World Mental Health Day, let’s prioritize self-care, not just today but every day. Your mental health matters, and it’s okay to seek support and prioritize your well-being. At Women for Women International, we understand the importance of mental health and we will continue to provide psychosocial support alongside our partners to the women we serve to help them cope with the trauma and stress they have lived through. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters

This September marked the end of the first year of our global partnership with A&O Shearman. So far, together we have raised over £650,000 for women survivors of war, some of which will be invested in our work in Iraq where we have already provided 250 women with social and economic empowerment training. 🙌 Some of the funds raised will also go to our Conflict Respond Fund, which provides urgent support for women in critical conflict situations including in Ukraine and Sudan. We are also so grateful to A&O Shearman for providing us with pro bono support! A huge thank you to everyone at A&O Shearman for your incredible commitment and generosity. Together we are creating positive change for women and their communities for generations to come! 💗 Find out more about our partnership. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eTsEqpJr #Charity #ThankYou #Impact

So many of the women we serve have been told they don’t have the right to many of the everyday things we take for granted – like opening a bank account, owning the land they live on or being in control of their finances. That’s why we are committed to reaching as many women survivors of war as possible – to help them learn about their rights and develop the skills to advocate for themselves. 🙌 Learn more about our program▶️ https://bit.ly/2ZrtWO4 #WomenPower #SupportWomen #WomensRights #Advocate

At Women for Women International we strongly believe that when we invest in women it creates a much larger ripple effect to families, communities and the world. And this is something Alek Wek strongly believes and advocates for. Alek is a world-famous model, entrepreneur and philanthropist from South Sudan who fled to Britain in 1991 to escape the civil war. Alek since has been outspoken and advocates for refugees who has a similar story to hers. #quote #inspirationalquote #womenquote #mondaymotivation #women
