Thank you for your support!!
A huge thank you to Women Road Builders for this amazing behind-the-scenes airfield tour of O’Hare Airport. Did you know that Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is responsible for the daily operations of both O’Hare and Midway, which make up two of the largest employers in the region and generate more than $70 billion in annual economic activity. O’Hare and Midway airports operate financially as two separate enterprise funds per federal regulations. I had the pleasure of visiting the Chicago Department of Aviation. Did you know CDA has their own Material testing lab? which we got to visit on our tour. We also got the opportunity to travel around O’Hare airport via CDA bus. It was very cool to be on an actual runway (not in a plane). O’Hare has the largest runways in the world, totaling eight. O’Hare resides on over 7,200+ acres which we got to cover most of. O’Hare believes in Sustainability. Most people just go to O’Hare to fly out somewhere, but I bet you didn’t know they also have an urban garden, vegetated green roofs, beehives, electric vehicle charging, they even have a grazing herd (goats), energy efficient, water refill stations and more. Satellite 1 area has 19 gates to accommodate international and domestic aircraft types. The curved roof of the Satellite was built to minimize heating and cooling needs. This area has created around 3,800 construction jobs. How cool is that? Ever fly on Delta (Terminal 5)? Last year O’Hare completed an expansion to Terminal 5, adding 10 additional gates and adding a new Delta Sky Lounge.
