“Hello there! My name is Megan Mcarthur and I have been fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the 2024 WACS scholarship recipients. I am a single mother, a school bus driver and work dispatch at my flight school. Three years ago I fell in love with aviation, I started flight training and became a very active member of the Chicago area 99s. Honestly, I believe that my journey in aviation is what will create a better life for myself and my children. I also look forward to becoming a CFI and helping others in making their aviation dreams become their realities. This scholarship award has allowed me to complete my instrument rating and begin my commercial training. Happy Friday everyone! Today we are looking back at all of our 2024 scholarship winners! This past WACS we were able to give away $30,000 in scholarships to 12 women. Since our inception we have given $111,500 to 55 different women. We are so #grateful for all of the companies who help make this possible. Scholarships change lives! “Hello everyone! My name is Alysse Matteson and I am a 2024 WACS Scholarship Recipient! I’m currently a Flight Instructor at Western Michigan University. I also graduated from WMU in 2023 with a double major in Aviation Flight Science and Aviation Management & Operations alongside a minor in General Business. There I was apart of WAI chapter for 4 years along with being on the Eboard. This scholarship was such a big help in furthering my education and receiving my CFII and MEI! “A woman’s place is in the cockpit” -Captain Lynn Rippelmeyer. The Women’s Aviation Career Symposium was lucky to have Captain Lynn Rippelmeyer as the 2024 keynote speaker! She shared her story about being the first woman to fly the Boeing 747, the first woman to captain a 747 trans-oceanic, part of the first all-female crew, and first flight attendant to become an airline pilot. She also shared stories about her nonprofit organization, ROSE. Her non profit helps to bring hope of a better life to families in Honduras. She is also the author of two books, Life Takes Wings and Life Takes Flight which share her story more in depth.
