Working at the intersection of sexual and human rights.

About us

Affirming Sexual Freedom as a Fundamental Human Right The Woodhull Freedom Foundation works to advance the recognition of sexual, gender, and family diversity. We work to improve the well-being, rights and autonomy of every individual thru advocacy, education and action. Our mission is to affirm sexual freedom as a fundamental human right. We’ve been fighting for those rights by focusing on a wide range of human rights issues, including immigration equality, reproductive justice, prison reform, anti-discrimination legislation, comprehensive nonjudgmental sexuality education, and the right to define our own families. As the nation’s leading sexual freedom and human rights organization, honored by Proclamation in Washington, DC, we are uniquely positioned to bring together allies and partners, thereby maximizing our effectiveness and theirs. Together, with your support, we can move mountains! Our programs include: - Family Matters Project - Sexual Freedom Alliance - Sexual Freedom Summit Keep in touch here and on Facebook and Twitter to be involved with the fight for human rights and sexual freedom! “Sexual Freedom is perhaps both one of the highest human aspirations and the foundation of all human rights, the cornerstone for all our civil liberties. It is both source and prerequisite for much, if not all, that motivates human beings.” -Barnaby B. Barratt, Why Sexual Freedom is a Fundamental Human Right, An Introduction to Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance’s State of Sexual Freedom Report.

  • Join us and thousands of readers across the country for the #FreedomToRead Community Day of Action today! Book bans violate our human rights to expression and education, enshrined in Articles 19 and 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Limited access to books and other media also violates our First Amendment rights, and we won't stand for it! We encourage you to embrace your freedom to read today and every day! 📚

  • Today is  World Values Day, and we’re celebrating the power of values to create positive change with our partners at Le Shaw Institute by highlighting the intersection of values championed by both organizations. We are committed to fundamental human rights, ethical practices, and social responsibility. Woodhull’s values:  🔵 Respecting each person's right to make decisions about their own body & sexual expression 🔵 Recognizing and affirming diversity in sexuality and gender expression 🔵 Consensual sexual expression should be free from interference, coercion, or stigma le Shaw Institute’s values:  🔵 Advancing sex-positive principles 🔵 Addressing misconceptions through evidence-based and science-backed information 🔵 Improving sexual health and wellbeing On this World Values Day, let's reflect on how we can bring these shared values to life in our communities. Whether it's standing up for human rights, fostering inclusivity, or promoting ethical practices, every action counts. Share your values-driven actions using #WorldValuesDay and join the global conversation on creating a more compassionate and just world. 🌎

  • These folks' questions are crucial to implementing New York's new law, the SAFE (Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation) Act. They are the same questions we raised when we submitted comments to the NY Attorney Generals' office last month. The SAFE Act creates age verification mandates for social media users in the Empire State, raising red flags for online privacy and free speech! 🚩 Read our comments ➡ https://lnkd.in/eHRZBCFj Our COO, Mandy Salley, LSW, MSW, MEd (she/her), spoke about our concerns during a panel last month hosted by Chamber of Progress. Missed it? Don't worry; you can catch the replay ➡ https://lnkd.in/eMWBqYDe

🔴 Live from New York! Andrew, the Policy Guy is back with a special guest to break down the new SAFE for Kids Act. This new law tackles everything from banning overnight social media notifications to the tough questions of parental consent and age assurance for minors online. How can platforms really know how old a user is or verify consent from a parent? 🔎 Let us know your thoughts on these challenges and tune in below ⬇️

  • We have bad news, and we have good news! The bad news is that we did not meet the $ 15,000 match for Sexual Freedom Month. 😭 The GOOD NEWS! is that our donors have amazingly extended their match through the end of the year! 🎉 Talk about a plot twist, right? 😮 We're over the moon about this incredible opportunity, and we're not letting it slip away! Here's the deal: Every dollar you donate will be DOUBLED until December 31st. That's right, your $10 becomes $20, $50 becomes $100 - you get the picture! It's like magic but better because it's real, and it's making a huge difference. Why should you care? Well, your support helps us: 🩷 Fight for sexual freedom and rights 💚 Provide crucial education and resources 🧡 Fight on in the courts to defeat censorship We've got two months to hit our goal. 🏁 With your help, we can crush it and do even more amazing work in the coming year. Double your donation ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eGnE63Kg

  • Age verification violates the First Amendment. That includes age verification for social media! Proud to stand with our allies Chamber of Progress, LGBT Tech, and the Coalition for Responsible Home Education in support of NetChoice! From the amicus brief: "Absent explicit parental consent communicated to a platform, young Mississippians would need to wait until their 18th birthdays to access vast amounts of information and opportunities for expression that are available to their same-age or younger peers in other states and countries." Thanks to Michael Dean McGrady Jr. for the deeper dive (as always!) https://lnkd.in/eFYqVN-z
