By promoting physical activity and cultural unity, we’re positively influencing our community’s overall well-being. My vision has always been to address gentrification and ensure our community is better prepared for urban development, rather than being caught off guard by displacement. 🏀 A big #RipCity shoutout to our two ambassadors, Abeal and Ayman, who were Word is Bond’s first two interns with our partners Portland Trail Blazers @ the Rose Quarter this summer!! “Both Abeal and Ayman jumped in and made big impacts in a short amount of time. Our trust in them has proven to be the right decision, as they have both risen to the occasion each week by completing tasks and attending meetings, helping us to host various community events this summer. Please join Word is Bond for our 2024 Community Exhibition and Showcase on Thursday, August 8th from 5 to 7 pm in the Moriarty Auditorium at the Cascade Campus at PCC! The Community Showcase is a celebration of the hard work of our summer ambassadors over our seven-week Rising Leaders leadership program. From 5 pm to 6 pm is our Community Exhibition where attendees will meet and mingle with our first-year ambassadors who will be displaying their poster projects on our theme, Pushing Past Limits. Guests will enjoy a red-carpet arrival and photo wall, live DJ, and hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. At 6 pm sharp, we will host our showcase where we will highlight the work over the past six months from our Spring Leadership Forum in D.C., our summer internships, and an exclusive discussion with our ambassadors who just returned from Ghana. Please join family, friends, community, and elected leaders in celebrating a powerful summer of leadership and Black excellence! This is a formal event, dress to celebrate. This summer, the ambassadors had an incredible outdoor adventure at Lost Lake Camping Resort. They stayed in cabins and took on the responsibility of cooking and preparing their own meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Without the convenience of showers, they embraced the refreshing lake, swimming regularly to stay cool in the heat. The ambassadors enjoyed a variety of activities on the lake, including paddle boarding, swimming, and catching salamanders and crawfish. They also embarked on several hikes, soaking in stunning views of Mount Hood, and spent late nights gathered around a lantern, sharing spooky stories. One of our first-year ambassadors, Isaiah, shared that being in nature helped him relax and calm his mind. Meanwhile, Yliassou another first-year ambassador found the hiking activities challenging and rewarding, as they pushed him to surpass his limits and try new things. The camping trip was a memorable experience for all, blending relaxation with adventure. Thank you to Keith Wilson for helping organize this event!
