Celebrating one trip around the sun with Workhuman today! I truly cannot believe it has already been a year!! Making the decision to leave the classroom to make this career change was a scary one, but so needed. I have learned SO much in the past year not only on a professional level, but a personal one too. So grateful to work for a company that makes you feel seen and appreciated (even when you are home sick on your anniversary date😅) Here’s to many more years of growing and learning alongside my team and this incredible company! 🎉

In a recent LinkedIn poll I ran, I asked how often people receive meaningful recognition—the kind that makes them feel genuinely valued. Here’s what you said: 📌 Annual performance review 30% 📌 Quarterly 3% 📌 Reactive (e.g., in response to specific events or tasks) 28% 📌 Baked in (regular, embedded into the culture) 40% While it’s promising to see that 40% of respondents experience consistent, embedded recognition, nearly one-third rely solely on annual performance reviews—a signal that we’re missing opportunities for more meaningful and timely acknowledgment. Why does this matter? Because recognition taps into one of our most basic human needs: the need to feel valued. And it’s not just about recognition once a year or only when something big happens—it’s the regular, thoughtful acknowledgment that makes a lasting impact. When people feel seen and valued consistently, they’re more motivated, resilient, and far less likely to burn out. Research by Gallup and Workhuman backs this up—check out the slides below. In short, recognition isn’t just good for morale; it’s essential for sustaining a motivated, high-performing team. And it doesn’t have to take grand gestures or big bucks to make it happen. Those small, timely “I see you” moments make all the difference. I saw this firsthand when I hosted a virtual forum for 700 leaders today. During the session, I asked if anyone had something they wanted to thank a colleague for, and scores of people took a moment to acknowledge their teammates. Some of these shout-outs may have been said before, but many likely hadn’t. I can only imagine how much better those colleagues felt about their leadership afterward. It was truly awesome to witness those small “I see you” moments in action. So, what’s one small way you could recognise someone today? Because sometimes that small, timely gesture is exactly what someone needs to keep going.

Workhuman’s Susana Rojero discusses how she ended up in product design, why communication skills are just as important as technical skills and what she enjoys most about her line of work. “I love the challenge of providing solutions to problems,” she says. “The entire process is fulfilling and knowing that the solutions I propose will be part of a product used by thousands of people around the world is incredibly gratifying.” Click the link below to read more. #Workhuman #Design #ProductDesign #Ireland #WorkingLife #Skills https://ow.ly/PLne50U1bEp

Retired | Former Chief Customer Officer | Ex-Salesforce | Purpose driven, centered on value, and inspiring those around me to thrive

It’s been a few months in the making but I finally made the leap. After a storied career with many interesting chapters I’ve made it to life after work..a world with a ton of opportunity and room for personal growth, exploration, fitness, and travel. Learning has always been a lifelong passion and I’m thrilled to do it without the constraint of full time work. My experience these last two years with Workhuman has left me with so much gratitude - for the people, the mission, the opportunity of a lifetime to make an impact on people’s lives at work. I’m so thankful for all the people who trusted me to steer the Customer team. Putting the reins of the operation into the hands of two brilliant women, Jennifer Reimert, CCP and Alyssa Johnson. Thank you to my whole team for a storied send off two weeks ago. What’s next for me? So many things…stay tuned!

Vice President at Everest Group | Advising clients on Future of Work tech. and services

At UNLEASH World, Varun Malik and I moderated a roundtable on the topic of skills-based organization, the what, why, and how. We discussed many interesting talking points and questions such as: A)   What measures to take to ensure skills accuracy across the organization, in terms of inferencing and validation of employee skills? B)   How should they think about the technology stack for skills? At Everest Group, we expect major shake up to happen in the skills technology market. The vendor landscape might look different in 2-3 years’ time C)   How to leverage internal and external skills data to make strategic workforce planning better? D)   How to measure the RoI of skills-based approaches? E)   How to ensure all of this is getting adopted by employees and the organization at scale?   I also got an opportunity to speak at Workhuman's booth on the topic of AI and analytics along with Jesse Harriott. One of the key things we discussed was how HR leaders are well positioned to navigate the AI transformation and change at work. We also had a packed vendor briefing agenda specifically in the Skills, Talent Acquisition, HR, People analytics, Digital Adoption spaces to learn what they have been working on and how they see their offerings shaping up. There are lot of fascinating capabilities and approaches they are building and excited to see how it gets adopted and helps business, HR, employees, candidates in their day to day.
