Brazil’s bold plan to double cocoa production to 400,000 tonnes by 2030 is realistic, says Chris Vincent, WCF's President in a Reuters article. Thanks to high prices, productivity improvements, and initiatives like #InovaCacau2030 and CocoaAction Brasil, with the support from Nestlé, Barry Callebaut Group, Cargill, and Mondelēz International, Brazil is on track to reclaim a larger role in global cocoa production. Pedro Paulo de Faria Ronca, Director of CocoaAction Brasil, highlights the potential to triple yields through better practices, with some farms already achieving over 1,000 kilos per hectare. Expansion into new areas like Bahia and Tocantins is happening sustainably, without deforestation, diversifying income for farmers. 🌱 With strategic investment and collaboration, Brazil could soon shift from a net importer to a major exporter! World Cocoa Foundation participated in the 9th edition of the National Cocoa and Chocolate Days (JNCC 2024) organised by Le Conseil du Café Cacao in Côte d'Ivoire. During the event, Youssouf N'DJORÉ, our Country Director for Côte d'Ivoire, took part in panel discussions, including one where he shared insights on farmers’ living conditions. We had the honour of interacting with the Ivorian Minister of Agriculture M. Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, who visited us at our booth. We also engaged with Michel Arrion, the Executive Director of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), nurturing important dialogues about the future of the cocoa sector. Additionally, we discussed how we are actively supporting our members in navigating and implementing the regulation to ensure compliance, in a presentation on the new WCF Deforestation Risk Assessment methodology, in view of the upcoming EU Deforestation Regulation (#EUDR). Particularly gratifying were the interactions with many farmers, including some remarkable women who are playing an increasingly important role in capturing value for producers and accelerating the structuring of the cooperative movement. This was genuine women empowerment at play. #SustainableCocoa #FarmerIncome #WomenEmpowerment

World Cocoa Foundation reposted this
#sustainablecocoa #womenempowerment #RDUE #LivingIncome
