A HIGH LEVEL MEETING IN KENYA As the 2024 SACCA Congress hosted by the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings & Credit Associations (ACCOSCA) continues through Friday, here are some key takeaways about the the 24th edition of the annual event and some exciting news of a monumental meeting! 🔹 More than 1,200 savings and credit cooperative (SACCOs) professionals from over 40 countries are participating. 🔹 The event recognizes the central importance of the African continent, which the UN estimates will hold 25% of the world population by 2025 and nearly 40% by 2100. That means there is an incredible opportunity and responsibility for African cooperative leaders to invest in a future that embraces all citizens and allows them to live a fulfilling life. 🔹 The event highlights the disparity in deposit protections for non-G20 credit union members. While 90% of G20 countries have deposit insurance guarantees for credit union members, that number drops to just 20% in non-G20 countries. 🔹 Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto PHD confirmed that cooperatives are central to his government's priorities and wants to see the success of the SACCO movement in Kenya during a monumental meeting at the State House with a delegation that included World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) President and CEO Elissa McCarter LaBorde, ACCOSCA Executive Director and WOCCU Board Director George. Y. Ombado (AADE, I-CUDE, HSC), Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions' Board Chair Bill Cheney, AACUC President/CEO Renee Sattiewhite and other key African and U.S. credit union leaders. The photos below are from this special event.

ENHANCING GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT That's what World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) President and CEO Elissa McCarter LaBorde focused on in her address to Wednesday's general session of the 2024 SACCA Congress in Naivasha, Kenya. "We must be certain on sustainability. We are living at a time where the option to stay in our corners, in our country borders, doing what we do without thinking of the global interconnected impact we have as a human society, is not an option. Global partnerships, knowing we are stronger together than alone, is the only way we will succeed in the struggle to achieve sustainable development for ourselves and our planet," said McCarter LaBorde. She went on to emphasize that global partnerships between #creditunions play a large role in advocating to ensure more sustainable regulatory environments and educating one another on the intersection of products and services our members need for both climate adaptation and mitigation. She also discussed how credit unions must innovate to meet this challenge while maintaining their integrity as trusted, community-based financial institutions. Now in it's 24th year, the SACCA Congress, presented by the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings & Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), is Africa’s largest annual financial cooperative event. It brings together every credit union on the continent and beyond to deliberate on issues taking eminence in the cooperative sector. #climatefinance #woccu #saccos #africa

We'd like to thank Connexus Corporation for hosting us at Cracking the Nut 2024 in Nigeria this week. What a great way to spread the word about how World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is working to digitize agricultural finance in Senegal! #CTN24 #agriculturalfinance #climatefinance
Engaging session on Scaling Bottom-Up Climate Solutions Through Digitizing Agricultural Finance in Senegal, presented by Eileen Miamidian, Diattou Coulibaly from World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), and Christoph Jungfleisch from YAPU Solutions. We learned how YAPU’s innovative digital tool facilitates climate financing by providing accessible loans to farmers, empowering them to adapt to climate challenges. The tool is accessible globally and offers vital support to farmers and financial institutions. It's great to see innovative solutions like this driving resilience in agriculture! #ClimateFinance #AgricultureInnovation #CredoAdvisory #CTN24
