Happy #WorldAnimalDay! Today, we celebrate animals for who they are. As James Yeates points out in his latest blog, animals’ awesomeness extends beyond what we often recognise. From horses planning ahead to elephants using names, and from bumblebees learning through observation to whales using a phonetic alphabet, animals surprise us in ways that challenge long-held beliefs about human uniqueness. Today is a day to not only marvel at animals but also to reaffirm our commitment to their well-being. Let’s ensure we celebrate their awesomeness by taking concrete actions to protect them, support them, and respect them. 🐖🐴🐘🐟 https://lnkd.in/eJX5RUci #AwesomeAnimals

About us
The World Federation for Animals is a global federation of 70+ NGOs working towards the recognition of animal welfare as essential for sustainable development. Our efforts focus on integrating animal welfare into international health, food, and environmental regimes and trade and development finance rules. Established in 2020, this coalition now drives transformational change for animals as a UN-accredited force that harnesses the collective strength of animal protection peers and experts worldwide to influence global decision-making at the UN and other international institutions. We achieve global impact for animals – together.

On 22 September, world leaders adopted the Pact for the Future. The Pact has set ambitious goals for addressing global challenges like food security and biodiversity loss. So, what do these commitments mean for animal welfare and advocacy? They open the door for us to showcase the role of animal welfare in building resilient ecosystems and securing a sustainable future. From improving agrifood systems to protecting biodiversity, we can make the link between animal welfare and environmental sustainability clear. https://lnkd.in/ee2FY8ap

Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is a growing global health threat, but solutions exist. At a side event by our member FOUR PAWS during the UN High-Level Meeting on AMR, our Global Health Policy Manager Dr. Masika Sophie emphasised that prevention through improved animal welfare is key. She highlighted how promoting animal health and welfare is a cost-effective way to tackle AMR in agrifood systems across all regions. In our latest article, we explore the AMR Political Declaration through an animal welfare lens, emphasising the need for stronger commitments to reduce antimicrobial use in animal agriculture: https://lnkd.in/eEmjfPYr By prioritising animal welfare, we can effectively tackle AMR while improving sustainability.
