It’s #WorldKrillDay! 🦐 DYK? Antarctic #krill act as a giant conveyor belt, constantly moving carbon down from the water’s surface by eating carbon-capturing algae, then dropping carbon-filled poop at the bottom of the ocean. Krill are an essential species in the Southern Ocean. Right now krill and their predators are threatened by concentrated fishing and global heating, particularly in the Antarctic Peninsula. Keeping them safe and healthy is critical. Today we celebrate this tiny but mighty crustacean! #ProtectAntarctica #Antarctica #MPAs
