The Y‑12 National Security Complex plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville Chancellor Donde Plowman, and Vice Chancellor of Research Deb Crawford visited Y-12 to discuss partnering opportunities that enhance research & development, modernization, and global security initiatives.
Thanks to the site going 30 days without a recordable injury, East Tennessee Children's Hospital received a $500 donation on behalf of the Y‑12 Site Manager’s Safety Challenge Award. The hospital was selected by the Atomic Trades and Labor Council. For the award, the charity choice rotates among Y-12 Labor organizations.
Oak Ridge Enhanced Technology and Training Center (ORETTC) Director Ashley Stowe joined the American Museum of Science and Energy's AMSEcast podcast to discuss his career and the mission of Y-12 National Security Complex. Opened in 2023, ORETTC trains first responders using cutting-edge XR technologies to simulate immersive nuclear scenarios.
