RECOVER-ENERGIZE is studying possible treatments, also called study interventions, for exercise intolerance and post-exertional malaise (PEM) related to Long COVID. These studies will include adults who had #COVID and who still have exercise intolerance or #PEMsymptoms. Long COVID affects the quality of life of millions of people in the United States, and researchers want to learn if the study programs improve exercise intolerance and PEM in people who have #LongCOVID. Your participation matters! We're excited to announce our recent publication in JAMA Internal Medicine titled "Accelerated Chest Pain Treatment With Artificial Intelligence–Informed, Risk-Driven Triage". This study, co-authored by Jeremiah Hinson, MD PhD, Scott Levin, Arjun Venkatesh, Chris Chmura, Rohit Sangal and Benjamin Steinhart, highlights the transformative potential of AI in emergency medicine. Key Findings: AI-Driven Triage: Implementation of TriageGO, an AI-informed decision support system, significantly impacted how chest pain patients are managed in the emergency department. Efficient Resource Allocation: By aligning triage decisions with clinical risk, TriageGO safely diverted more patients to lower acuity levels while ensuring timely attention to those at higher risk. Reduced Length of Stay: Hospitalized patients experienced a notable reduction in ED length of stay (LOS) by 76.4 minutes, with emergency procedure times cut by 128 minutes. Faster Procedures: Adjusted median time to emergency cardiovascular procedures decreased by 205.4 minutes, notably cardiac catheterization, which was reduced by 243.2 minutes. Our study shows that AI can significantly enhance patient stratification and expedite chest pain management, potentially alleviating ED overcrowding and improving patient outcomes. We are excited to continue our work towards manuscript products from this research and explore further applications of AI in healthcare. I'm feeling a pricking sensation in my chest- am I having heart attack!? Basmah Safdar, MD, FACEP, professor of emergency medicine and co-chair of the Chest Pain Center at Yale School of Medicine, highlights how pin-prick pains near the heart are often confused with heart attacks. But in fact, a myriad of issues can cause a painful sensation in your chest, many of them unrelated to your cardiac health. So what should I look out for? Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eYEbUhD9

Our residents had an exciting opportunity for #EMS AoC (Area of Concentration) today! The #WestShoreFireDepartment’s water rescue team graciously invited us to their station for some hands-on water rescue training. 🌊 🚒 The West Shore Fire Department’s water rescue team is exceptional at what they do, recently making national news for their swift actions in a water rescue incident. Their training enabled them to achieve an incredible response time of less than 2 minutes from receiving the call to having their boat in the water and patients onboard—at 2am, in the dark, about 100 yards offshore. You can read more about their heroic efforts here: https://lnkd.in/eJBBcU2e Thank you, West Shore Fire Department, for this invaluable training opportunity and for your outstanding service! #YaleEMS #WaterRescue #YaleEmergencyMedicine #Training #Community

A new Yale study led by Albert E. Kent Professor of Emergency Medicine, Gail D'Onofrio, MD, MS, and co-authored by Kathryn Hawk, MD, James Dziura, PhD, David Fiellin, MD, et al. found that a seven-day, extended-release version of #buprenorphine is safe and effective for people with opioid use disorder experiencing minimal withdrawal symptoms. This extended-release treatment can be administered in #emergencydepartments, providing immediate protection from overdose for seven days, which can facilitate longer-term treatment. The study, published in JAMA Network Open, suggests this approach could increase access to opioid use disorder treatment and save lives.
