BRIDGE - U: Liberia Kicks Off Project Year 4 with Reflections on Gains, Challenges, and Areas for Improvement. As BRIDGE - U: Liberia enters its fourth project year, the team gathered to reflect on the progress, challenges, and areas for improvement from the past three years. Kristina Talbert-Slagle, the Principal Investigator from Yale University, commended the team for their dedication and acknowledged the significant impact and gains made over the years. Project Director Chelsea Plyler led a reflection session focused on Year 3, using insights from the end-of-project survey. The survey revealed that many team members felt their colleagues were highly collaborative and supportive. Keywords like “innovation” and “visionary” frequently appeared in the feedback. The team was also informed that the two most recent audit reports received unqualified opinions, with no significant issues identified. The role of the Office of Sponsored Research Services (OSRS) in preparing faculty to submit research grant proposals was highlighted, with over 30 proposals submitted. One of the key project activities, Evidence-Based Health Policy, successfully graduated its first cohort of health policymakers from the Ministry of Health, Montserrado County Health Team, and NPHIL. Additionally, the Liberian Medical and Dental Council and the Pharmacy Board shared their experiences with the newly updated boards websites during reflections on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. Later in the day, project staff members were divided into groups based on activity and team to reflect on accomplishments, completed activities, quality of service, and strategies for Year 4. The day marked the beginning of three days of reflection, skills training, and planning for the BRIDGE - U: Liberia project, which is part of a five-year USAID-funded initiative to the University of Liberia College of Health Sciences. The project focuses on the development and implementation of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, as well as system strengthening, and research utilization programs. #BRIDGEULiberia #ULCHS #CTLI #USAID

Proactive action is needed to make cities more resilient to climate change and capable of protecting community health, according to a new report released today by the Yale School of Public Health, the Resilient Cities Network, and The Rockefeller Foundation. The report is based on a survey of nearly 200 city leaders in 52 countries. Less than half of the cities reported having a climate resilience plan, and only one in four indicated that their plan addressed climate and health. The research was funded by The Rockefeller Foundation, which also announced today that it will invest more than $1 million to help cities implement the report’s recommendations. The announcement was made during #ClimateWeekNYC. "We call on the global community to put health at the heart of the urban climate change agenda," said Prof. Jeannette Ickovics, the lead author of the report. Based on their survey data and interviews with city leaders in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, Ickovics and the Resilient Cities Network assembled 10 recommendations to guide local government leaders in making their communities more climate resilient. These include: ➡️ Identifying unique climate shocks and stressors that pose the largest threats to vulnerable populations ➡️ Implementing data-driven, community-focused adaptation programs like greening initiatives and population-based mental health support to address health, climate, and equity ➡️ Investing in green energy and other energy-efficient systems that contribute to a zero-carbon economy ➡️ Establishing and reinforcing early-warning mechanisms for climate-related catastrophic events like hurricanes, heat waves, and floods ➡️ Fostering city-to-city collaborations to share best-practices in the fight against climate threats #YaleAtClimateWeek Yale Center on Climate Change and Health Yale Institute for Global Health
