Meet Kara Hughes, VP of Marketing at YCharts ❤️ Kara shares a bit about her career journey, motherhood, and experience working at YCharts below ⬇️ What inspired you to pursue your current career path, and how has your journey evolved since you started? “My journey began with studying marketing at Miami University, followed by a role in operations at a large bank. A few years later, I transitioned into fintech as a Sales Development Rep, which gave me a solid foundation in both sales and marketing and their impact on growth. Soon after, I took on a role as YCharts’ solo marketer and am now the VP of Marketing, leading a talented team of 8 and driving demand generation, product marketing, and sales enablement.” Can you share a project or accomplishment that you are particularly proud of, and what impact it had on the team or company? “I’m particularly proud of how much our small team is able to achieve across a wide range of initiatives. From content and product marketing to demand generation and influencer marketing, we manage to cover a lot of ground. The impact has been meaningful too—we’ve seen award-winning growth eight years in a row, a streak accomplished by fewer than 1% of companies on the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies list.” How do you balance your professional responsibilities with personal life, and what strategies do you use to maintain well-being? “As a newer mom, balancing my professional and personal life means embracing new opportunities while making sure everyone is well supported. I find that having something to look forward to—like a vacation or time for regular workouts—keeps me energized and motivated, allowing me to give my best in both roles.” Who has been a mentor or role model for you in your career, and what valuable lessons have you learned from them? “My aunt has been a mentor in my life. When she hired me as an intern, she led a team of a few hundred people. She taught me the importance of a strong work ethic, fostering teamwork, and leading by example. Her influence has shaped my own leadership style, helping me focus on empowering others while working hard toward shared goals.” What advice would you give to other women looking to advance or enter careers, especially within our industry? “My advice to women looking to advance or enter careers in our industry is to find what excites you each morning and pursue it wholeheartedly. Don’t hesitate to throw your name in the ring for new opportunities, and never back away from challenges that could be stepping stones to growth or key learning experiences.
