With heavy hearts we share the news that our dear friend and Yeti Factory Racing team mechanic, Matt Opperman, has passed away. He was found next to his bike in a remote area of Segura de la Sierra, Spain. Matt was more than just a world-class mechanic—he was a mentor, a racer, and a friend to so many. For over 20 years, he worked alongside Olympians, World Champions, National Champions, and rising talents, shaping the sport in countless ways. His impact stretched across teams like Yeti Factory Racing, Trek, Rocky Mountain, and Gary Fisher. His kindness, professionalism, and steady presence made him truly one of a kind. Beyond the pits, Matt was an adventurer at heart. Whether riding trails in Spain, racing in Colorado, or supporting riders around the globe, he embodied the spirit of mountain biking. We were lucky to have him on our squad, but even luckier to call him a friend. Our deepest condolences go out to Matt’s family, friends, and the entire racing community. Rest easy, friend. We’ll miss you.
