I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Desiree Armas, Siara Chowdhury, and Jimmie Cassamajor for their powerful presentation last week highlighting three youth-driven initiatives on youth mental health and wellbeing they are a part of here in NYC and nationally. They shared their honest personal and professional perspectives with funders and policy makers at a convening hosted by Philanthropy New York and the NYC Youth and Education Funders Group. It is always great working in partnership with Sarah Zeller-Berkman and Kim Sabo Flores to support youth in this way. Thank you Jennifer Negron for creating this opportunity for all of us to participate. Lastly, thank you Shiza Pasha for coordinating the process.

Thrilled to be with RBC FOUNDATION USA today and so many longstanding supporters from RBC Capital Markets like Vito Sperduto who talked about RBC’s commitment to helping clients thrive and communities prosper that underscores its strong culture of philanthropy. He noted that when recruiting, he is seeking lifelong learners who want to be engaged in the community, which underscores how the firm builds its strong culture. RBC Foundation Executive Director Andrea C Barrack shared their bold ideas for People and Planet to address pressing societal challenges and acknowledged they can’t execute without community partners like Youth INC Nonprofit Partners Fiver Children's Foundation and You Gotta Believe whose ideas they amplify and support. They are well on their way to her goal of being the model corporate partner!😍🫶🏼 Great to see you, Christie Ko, Jennifer L. Pinder, Rebecca (Gnessin) Koschitz, Heather Collins Netrosio and meet you Dan Botoff! So much more to do together! #socialimpact #CSR

So many great nuggets and reminders that although it often feels like the 100meter sprint , non-profit growth is in fact more adjacent to cross-country! Thank you for this reminder and I am excited to kick-off the second month of the OC Revenue Strategy Bootcamp with our amazing revenue strategy partners Spectrum Nonprofit Services !!!

Real nonprofit growth isn’t sexy. It’s not about fancy galas or shiny impact reports or getting “the right person” on your board. True growth is more like gardening—it’s slow, deliberate, and often messy. But the finished product is healthy and beautiful and alive. Real growth is about the behind-the-scenes work of building systems, nurturing your team, and consistently showing up…. It’s all those days that you succeed in saying no to the shiny distractions and yes to the strategic, long-term moves that don’t always feel exciting in the moment but make all the difference in the end. Real growth is about resilience and sustained progress, not quick wins. For nonprofit leaders, this means focusing on alignment, execution, and clarity — even when it feels like there’s no immediate payoff. The good news? Those steady, intentional steps build the kind of institution that lasts! Growth doesn’t need to be glamorous—it just needs to be real, and that’s where the magic happens.

A recent survey conducted by Gallup for the National Summer Learning Association and the American Camp Association reveals disparities in summer activity participation among youth in the U.S. due to household income. The contrast between upper-income and lower-income families presents a barrier, despite wanting young people to participate. Although pandemic relief funds have expanded access to summer programs, their expiration in 2025 poses a risk, emphasizing the need for funding to sustain and expand access to summer learning opportunities.
