Teens and tweens are far more engaged with political and social issues than we give them credit for. From Vox: "But there are also signs that kids care about issues that don’t map neatly onto electoral politics. A 2024 survey by the market research group YPulse found that 75 percent of 8- to 12-year-olds were passionate about a social cause or issue. The top issue they cited was animal rights, followed by cyberbullying, poverty, racism, and mental health care." YPulse enterprise subscribers can download our recent Tweens report and more right now. Find out how you can become one today. Link in comments. #genz #genalpha #teens #tweens #election

PARENTS *DO* UNDERSTAND? 😳 Even parents think it’s harder to be a teen now than it was 20 years ago. While teens most often say they think it’s harder to be a teen today (44%), 29% say they’re not sure. But parents are decided: 69% say it’s harder to be a teen today, and few in both groups say it’s easier or about the same. For parents of teens who say it’s harder today, the driving cause named in an open-ended question is social media (41%), though technology at large is a factor in two thirds of their reasons why. Among the teens who think it’s harder, high expectations, sometimes caused by social media, are the top reason they name. But this pressure is often cited as coming from adults, with fewer saying social media specifically is the reason it’s harder today. (Pew Research) 📈 YPulse reported: 75% of Gen Z and Millennial parents are trying to have open conversations with their children about mental health -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02QXPXG0 #GenZInsights #StayInformed #YouthTrends

GEN Z GETTING THE MAXX FOR THE MINIMUM 📈 Discount stores’ stock is looking at huge growth thanks to Gen Z. Retailers like TJ Maxx, Burlington, and Ross are winning young consumers, with both Gen Z and Millennials “taking up 4% greater share of spending on value apparel in the last year.” That alone is driving faster growth in value apparel spending than for overall apparel spending, reflecting the young gen’s budget mindset and the influence it has. In turn, Bank of America predicts these retailers could see a share increase of up to 20%—but this will be partially determined by whether young consumers stick by these brands when inflation is down. Now, they appreciate the budget buys, but later, their loyalty might be better earned by higher quality than by price alone. (Markets Insider) 📊 YPulse data: 42% of 18-24-year-olds agree, “I never pay full price when shopping” -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://hubs.ly/Q02QX46X0

    👀 Gen Z Expert @ YPulse | ✍️ Research & Data Analyst

Story time! 📕 ⏯ I was working from a Starbucks ☕ in south London when someone behind me said -"What? You work at @YPulse?" (they saw our logo on my laptop) -"I do!" -"I love YPulse and all your Gen Z insights!" It's SOOO nice when all the hard work of our youth experts get recognized by brand strategists and leaders and when it materialized into an impromptu coffee shop conversation! Today I learnt: 1. In doubt, go to Starbucks 🧜♀️ ☕ 2. Put your logo on your laptop, it's good (free) advertising and conversation-starter! 😻

SWIFTIES NEW TUNE: KAMALA GEAR 🥥 “Swifties for Kamala” merch is making waves online. Following Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Harris, tons of her fans have rallied behind it and are doing what they do best: making custom merch. Just like any other search for Swiftie merch, there’s now t-shirts, hats, and friendship bracelets—though lawn signs might be new. The Harris Campaign even introduced their own Harris-Walz style friendship bracelets, mimicking the trend that Swift’s fans shared at her concerts. Some of the popular t-shirt slogans reference Swift’s hit songs, featuring phrases like “In my Harris 2024 Era,” “We are not going back. Like ever,” and “Who’s afraid of little old me? He should be!” But now, it’s not just the endorsed campaign looking to attract her fans with merch; the Trump campaign tweeted out their own Eras Tour-style shirt design a couple days later. (Stereogum, sheknows) 📊 YPulse data: 42% of 18-39-year-olds say they would vote for Kamala Harris if the election were today -- For more expert-curated Gen Z news: https://lnkd.in/gzt94zGH #swiftiesforharris #genz #taylorswift #election2024
