YugabyteDB is the high-performing, PostgreSQL-compatible distributed database for building cloud-native apps at scale.
About us
Yugabyte is the company behind open source YugabyteDB, a high-performance, PostgreSQL-compatible, distributed database for cloud native applications. Built using a unique combination of high-performance document store, auto sharding, per-shard distributed consensus replication and multi-shard ACID transactions (inspired by Google Spanner), YugabyteDB serves both scale-out RDBMS and internet-scale OLTP workloads with low query latency, extreme resilience against failures and global data distribution. As a cloud native database, it can be deployed across public and private clouds as well as in Kubernetes environments with ease. We are backed by top-tier investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sapphire Ventures, Dell Technologies Capital, Alkeon Capital, Meritech Capital, 8VC, Wipro Ventures, and Wells Fargo Strategic Capital. We are hiring across the board in Engineering, Sales and Marketing. This is a great recap of the Postgres compatibility enhancements in our latest release (and the benefits it provides) from Yugabyte expert Suda Srinivasan! 🚀
A couple of weeks ago we announced new enhanced Postgres compatibility capabilities in YugabyteDB. These new features make YugabyteDB look and feel like Postgres to your developers, applications, and tools. But why does it matter? There are several reasons: 🛠️ Familiar interface = quicker developer onboarding 🚀 Functional compatibility = easy migration 🔄 Fall back = peace of mind The extent to which you can enjoy the benefits of Postgres compatibility depends on how Postgres compatible the database you’re using is. Because the definition of Postgres compatibility is broad, databases can claim to be Postgres compatible, even if they only vaguely look like Postgres. But there’s a threshold of PG compatibility only above which you get most of the benefits. If you want to dive into different levels of Postgres compatibility, we talk this in detail on our website: https://lnkd.in/gkMizkg2. One final point — no database will be 100% compatible with Postgres, and neither should it be. If you want a 100% Postgres-compatible database, go with Postgres. You’re picking a new database because you need things that Postgres does not provide, or doesn’t do well. #Postgres #DatabaseMigration #YugabyteDB #CloudDatabases
