Today, we honor the brave women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote! Their courage and determination reshaped history and gave women the power to shape the future. Although today marks a pivotal step in allowing women to vote, we’d also like to acknowledge that women of color did not have full voting rights until 1965 with the passing of the Voting Rights Act. Despite the passing of voting rights, women have fewer rights today than they’ve had in decades. We call on lawmakers to restore and protect women’s rights by: ✅ Passing voting rights legislation ✅ Adding the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution ✅ Restoring reproductive rights Let's demand progress and protect the hard-won gains of the past. Our fight for equality continues! As we head to the polls this election season, let’s remember their legacy and continue to champion equality and justice for all. Every vote counts, and every voice matters. 🗳️ State Primaries are September 3rd! Learn more about the elections in your area here: https://lnkd.in/euTCjAk7

In a recent article published by WBUR, MIT blames the Supreme Court decision — striking down affirmative action — for its less diverse incoming class. The class of 2028 will be comprised of 16% Black, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander students, a stark decrease from 25% in the last few years. Kathryn Henderson, interim CEO of YW Boston, had this to say: “I am deeply saddened to see the impact the Supreme Court decision unfold in real time. Far too often, people of color are systematically denied equitable access to higher education and career opportunities. “Affirmative action was implemented to rectify these inequities. Undoing it, as we see here with MIT, will further widen the gap in access and opportunity, exacerbating disparities in educational attainment. “The broader implications of this decision extend far beyond college admission, influencing the diversity of the workforce, the representation in leadership, and the inclusivity of our communities.” Stu Schmill, MIT's dean of admission states, “Black and Hispanic students are less likely to attend high schools where calculus is taught, where physics is taught, where computer science is taught. So, this inequality is most pronounced in STEM fields," he told WBUR. "And so, there are fewer of those students in [MIT’s] applicant pool, and we're now no longer able to see them when we do our admission." The article also mentions MIT’s commitment to combat these inequalities and expand racial diversity amid these new legal restrictions. MIT will continue expanding access to K-12 STEM education and provide mentorship to prospective students. Read the full article here: https://buff.ly/3Xdwbjc

Moms are the backbone of our economy, skillfully juggling careers, and caregiving. Yet, they face systemic challenges, including pay and caregiver discrimination, and limited paid leave, hindering their economic stability and career growth. Currently, working moms earn just 63 cents on the dollar compared to working fathers. 🎉 Massachusetts is well on its way to providing a more equitable workforce! Yesterday, Governor Maura Healey signed the Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act into law. A huge win in our fight for wage equity! 🚀👏 However, our work is not done! We urge lawmakers to swiftly pass the: ⚡️ Paycheck Fairness Act, which would modernize and strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to better combat pay discrimination and close the wage gap. ⚡️ Healthy Families Act, which would set a national standard for paid sick and safe days to allow workers in businesses with 15 or more employees to earn up to seven job-protected paid sick and safe days each year. 🤝 Let’s work together to provide a more equitable work environment for mothers!
