Zed Factor Fellowship

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) Space Vision 2024 where I was a panelist representing the prestigious Zed Factor Fellowship and for the first time was able to present Project AV rover, MAVIS, outside of Puerto Rico in the research symposium with our astrobiology lead Jean M Jiménez Ramírez. It was awesome connecting with fellow SEDS members and space enthusiasts. Special shoutout to Sara Alvarado Theodore Courtois Raul Mariani and the rest of the executive board for being able to host such an amazing event!

Meet the 2024 Zed Factor Fellowship Fellows! Elizabeth Koenck is an undergraduate student at Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service, where she studies International Politics. Elizabeth hopes to focus her studies on the intersection of development and security, and has a budding interest in international space diplomacy. On campus, she is involved with the Georgetown University Space Initiative, with Georgetown’s Model UN travel team, and with the University's student-run international affairs newspaper, the Caravel. In her free time, Elizabeth loves to hike in her native Colorado, read fantasy and science fiction novels, and bake exciting new recipes. This year, Elizabeth will be working with The Planetary Society as a Zed Factor fellow. Meet the 2024 Zed Factor Fellowship Fellows! Natasha Kamara Martinez is a sophomore at Borough of Manhattan Community College studying Computer Science. She is passionate about space exploration with an interest in autonomous systems that make exploring distant planets possible. She holds leadership roles as Vice President of the Computer Programming Club and President of the Women In Computing chapter. Outside school, she has participated in NASA's Mission Concept Academy and is an NCAS Scholar. Natasha aims to pursue a Bachelor's in Computer Science at a four-year university. Her hobbies include reading science fiction books, going on runs, and developing GUI applications. Speaking about why aerospace engagement is important to her, Natasha says it "not only fuels passion for space but also plays a crucial role in inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in this field." This year, Natasha will be interning with a.i. solutions as part of her Zed Factor fellowship! Day two of the Zed Factor Fellowship leadership summit is a wrap! Today, Zed Fellows met with leaders from the White House National Space Council, participated in sessions covering everything from life at startup space companies to mental health in the workplace, and enjoyed fast-paced speed mentoring prior to dinner. Many thanks to today's phenomenal speakers for their time and insights - Chirag Parikh, Samantha G., Quincy Kissiedu-Brown, and Tahara Dawkins of the White House National Space Council, Christine Joseph, Mariam Naseem, Camille Reeves, Katherine Melbourne, Alex Coultrup, Jared Stout, Corrine Rojas, George Novak, Savannah Horton, Luc Riesbeck, and John Galer, as well as to our "speed networking" mentors - Curtis Iwata, Eric Ingram, Lori Gordon, Neda Behrooz, Elizabeth Anderson, and Amanda Nguyen! Tomorrow: a guided tour of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, and an exciting afternoon at a Capitol Hill event hosted by our friends and partners at the The Future Space Leaders Foundation!

Day one of the Zed Factor Fellowship Summit is in the books! Today, the Zed Fellows met with several government, industry, and non-profit experts and leaders in the Washington, D.C. aerospace community for engaging discussion and networking. A special "thanks" goes to Alex Wagner, Megan Wenrich, Dr. Lindsay DeMarchi, Jessica Tok, Sarah Mineiro, A.C. Charania, Jack Kiraly, Dan Stohr, Steven R. E. Jordan Tomaszewski, and Molly Prochaska for their insights, candid career and personal stories, great conversation, mentorship, and time.
