Happy Birthday to the United States Navy! In 1775 when the Navy was first formed, it only consisted of two armed vessels which were tasked to interdict British forces. Now it is the largest navy in the world, with more than 300,000 active Sailors and 100,000 Ready Reserves. The US Navy represents the courage, skill, and determination on which our country was founded. The Navy’s responsiveness and tireless efforts has kept the United States safe, as well as providing international influence. Many of the Navy’s Sailors have been responsible for notable inventions in computer coding, engineering, nuclear propulsion, radar, sonar, and beginnings of the modern internet. The mission of the Navy is to protect America at sea along with our allies to defend freedom, preserve economic prosperity, and keep the seas open and free.
