When it gets personal... Many of the Founders we partner with are building their companies due to something that happened to them or someone they love. Drives them to new heights of innovation and achievement. It just means more to them. I am fortunate to know Orestis Vardoulis, PhD. Everyone else I meet who knows him makes the same expression. They smile and say something to the effect of "he is extraordinary". He created Zeit Medical when his uncle and mother were affected by vascular indications. Determined right then and there that he was going to do something about it. During our conversation on #thefamilybusiness we discussed his motivation. Their technology not only detects strokes at an incredibly accurate level (zero false positives), it calls the family and 911 for a patient. They have also developed a literal library of data on stroke and have accomplished all of this with only 4 people. If I did not know him, would question the veracity of the story. He is the real deal. On top of all of this, he is funny, gracious, brilliant and immensely proud of being #Greek. He made an effort to do his clinical work there and loves the fact he can develop this system at home. He deflects credit and points towards Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign and Fogarty Innovation for their unending support.
