#granteespotlight: Congratulations to the newest cohort of Artists' Adaptability Circles, a Bay Area funding and leadership development collaborative that supports creatives addressing issues arising in their lives and communities. Since the program's inception in June 2020 when many artists and arts workers were struggling to return to work, AAC has been designed to support the kinds of rest and dreaming — or, “R&D” — that are vital for grassroots arts collectives but typically not funded. Check out the full press release for details about the program and 24 artists joining the two-year program. https://lnkd.in/gDnRknTf

In their most recent report, PolicyLink and Stanford Social Innovation Review asked: How do we begin to build a multiracial democracy that truly serves all? In "A Revolution of the Soul," thought leaders explore how building power through love, humility, and imagination can move us all into a more equitable future. "To love all means to acknowledge the inherent dignity and worth of every person—not abstractly, but concretely—and to act in service of their flourishing. Love is an essential human and social competency, an intentional way of being in relation to ourselves, others, and the world. It grows from seeing others in the fullness of their humanity and acknowledging that our fates are intertwined. We are all connected and interdependent." Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gV7x8_AV

National Youth Justice Network's Resourcing Communities Policy Platform reminds us that to achieve thriving communities and cities, we need to "invest in youth by giving communities the resources they need for young people to flourish; partnering with and empowering young people to reimagine holistic models of care that no longer rely on punitive, carceral systems; and creating the infrastructure to support the reimagined models of care." Read more about their concrete examples of how states are reimagining #youthjustice, and what they're putting into practice: https://lnkd.in/gwy7MQeq

With leadership transitions in the nonprofit space increasing over the last several years, we invite our grantee partners and funder peers to join us and the Zellerbach Family Foundation on Tuesday, September 24 for a convening on Alternative Leadership Models. The event will be an opportunity to hear from nonprofit leaders sharing their own experiences with non-traditional structures/models and to network with funders about how they can best support grantee partners as they go through transitions. Learn more and RSVP for the in-person event, which will take place in Oakland: https://lnkd.in/g3Ez_Z_Z

As we celebrate #BlackPhilanthropyMonth and the leaders, partners, and changemakers who are working to create a more just and equitable world, we are reminded to show up as learners: "As racial justice practitioners, our job is to learn every day and we must reclaim evaluation as a tool for justice. We must hold strategy and learning together and allow for real-time shifts based on what is emerging in the moment. This looks like philanthropy investing in its own capacity to actively learn in real time as it supports Black-led change. This is how we will win." https://lnkd.in/geFXQg7m

#granteespotlight: As part of the Bay Area Youth Participatory Evaluation Project, experts from Alliance for Girls and Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ) set out to find how we can further humanize young people's experiences, and build on restorative justice practices so that diversion programs can meet the needs of young people and their families. The research highlights the need for connection, family participation, community, and positive initiatives that support re-imagining rewarding systems so that youth feel included, not punished. Find out more about their research, findings, and recommendations to improve diversion programming for system-impacted youth. https://lnkd.in/gnAXA9wN
