🚀 We are delighted to announce two new additions to the Zinc portfolio: Serpenta and GutSee Health 🚀 ▶ Meet Serpenta: Founded by Alvena Kureshi, PhD and Arnau Garriga Casanovas, Serpenta envisions a future where traditional open and laparoscopic surgeries are rendered obsolete by the advancement of innovative robotic technology for endoluminal surgery. Their mission is to lead the transformation of colorectal surgery by pioneering the world’s first dual-arm snake robot that can perform precision surgery to remove stage 1 and 2 cancer anywhere in the colon. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death globally, with approximately 1.9 million new cases and 0.9 million deaths per year. Current treatment is invasive and expensive. Serpenta’s proprietary solution will reduce costs, reduce risks, and improve patient outcomes. ▶ Meet GutSee: Founded by Joanna Wiecek and Ketaki Mhatre, Ph.D., GutSee’s vision is to create a world free from gut disorders through revolutionary advancements in big data and AI-driven precision medicine healthcare solutions. They are starting with IBS where there is a large - and growing - unmet clinical need. IBS is a chronic and debilitating gut disorder that affects up to 20% of the population, and is currently hard to diagnose and treat. The team plans to decode the human gut through its advanced AI discovery platform to revolutionise the diagnosis and treatment of IBS - and beyond. They are building a combination diagnostic therapeutic platform, which offers a novel approach to rapid, non-invasive testing. Both teams met as part of Zinc’s 8th venture building cohort. Each team is highly complimentary, bringing deep scientific, market and technical expertise together to tackle some of the most complex challenges we currently face in healthcare.
