It is the first day of National Family Caregivers Month!! Being a #FamilyCaregiver is one of the most challenging, and yet rewarding #Unpaid jobs someone can have. I was one of 53 million #Family #Caregivers and I’m proud of the care that I provided to my sweet husband, Evan Schrier. I often questioned my skills, but I know he never doubted my devotion and love, and at the end of the day, those are the things that matter most. This is a silly picture that I made to make him laugh. It worked! I co-founded Zinnia to help those traveling the caregiving road behind me; it is an honor to serve this population. If you're a ✨caregiver✨, remember that you are not alone, you are admired, and this month we're celebrating you! Look for the good. Find things to laugh about together. Zinnia, an AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP startup participant, is addressing these mental health concerns with an innovative approach. This novel platform turns TVs and other devices into non-pharmacological solutions that help people living with dementia reduce and soothe unwanted behaviors, accomplish essential activities of daily living, and find engagement, connection and joy. Cooler weather can lead to less physical activity. Zinnia is excited to introduce exercise videos created in partnership with Enhance®Fitness, a low-cost, evidence-based group exercise and falls prevention program that helps older adults at all levels of fitness. These videos feature Gina, an EnhanceFitness instructor, leading gently-paced balance, movement and strength exercises informed by the EnhanceFitness program in a beautiful outdoor setting. Through the month of October, anyone can enjoy Exercise with Gina videos for free: https://lnkd.in/gdua4Cj5 For people living with #dementia and their #caregivers, physical activity is a vital part of staying as healthy as possible, for as long as possible. These videos provide Zinnia subscribers with content that helps them move more, and stay healthy, right in their own living rooms. These videos also provide a small taste of the exercise programming available through EnhanceFitness. It is our hope that Zinnia subscribers, with their doctor’s permission, might find encouragement through these videos to engage in a regular exercise program, like that offered by EnhanceFitness.
