Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT ASSOCIATE for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.
About Signature
Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary
Signature is seeking a Communications & Engagement Associate. The opportunity is ideal for someone who is passionate about theatre being accessible by all. You’ll facilitate cultural participation by promoting the Signature Access program (formerly the Signature Ticket Initiative). To date, over 1 million price subsidized tickets have been purchased by community members as part of this program. The Communications & Engagement Associate reports directly to the Director of Marketing, and works closely with members of the Marketing, Education, and Artistic teams to grow Signature Theatre’s reach to multicultural and multigenerational audiences for all Signature productions and public activities at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street at the intersection of Times Square and Hudson Yards neighborhoods.
Responsibilities
Research, pitch and develop relationships with new community partners (examples: small businesses, corporations, civic and social groups) whose audiences and goals align with Signature’s strategic marketing plan goals.
Create opportunities to reach new audiences while continuously serving as a Signature brand ambassador seeking to network and grow Signature’s base of Community partners both in-person and digitally using email marketing, promotional websites, and social media to communicate Signature’s partnership goals.
Assist the marketing department with meeting scheduling and administrative duties including document edit tracking, file organization, event and information support for the Marketing Department’s Public Relations and Content Production teams.
Responsibilities
Work with the Director of Marketing to develop and execute community engagement and audience development initiatives
Secure community partners (restaurants, cultural organizations, civic groups, etc.) to cross promote
Manage the review process, copywriting or copy collecting, and copy editing for various materials, including but not limited to the Digital Program Book and Handout, newsletter emails,
Plan and promote community events for season productions in collaboration with the Artistic team and the Writer-In-Residence for each production
Work closely with Director of Artistic Programs on the promotion of SigSpace events
Work closely with Manager of Artistic and Education Projects on educational outreach, and provide research and leads for Ticket Services Associate to execute student group sales outreach
Work closely with the Associate Artistic Director and the Writer-in-Residence for each production to develop and project manage dramaturgical content for audience engagement
Foster and maintain community partner relationships toward audience development, with the goal of developing a community partnership program at Signature
Support communication and relationship management with press representatives
Provide direct support to the Content Strategist on the execution of social media and email marketing
Execute Book Store monthly display curation, manage inventory, and collaborate with Director of Artistic Programs to develop SigSpace events for the Book Store
Serve as direct support for the Content & Engagement Fellow
Desired Skills
Strong written and verbal communication.
Graphic design skills a plus.
Ability to use the internet and social media to research potential partners. Experience
1+ years relevant experience in marketing, community organizing, social media, and/or communications.
Experience and passion for the arts, cultural institutions and/or non-profit service-oriented organizations.
Self-Starter / ability to multitask and work independently and within the marketing dept. goals
Compensation
This is a full-time non-exempt position with an annual salary $45,000-$52,000
