Five Talents is a Christian microenterprise organization that trains women and men to save, lend, and build businesses as a sustainable path out of extreme poverty. We have impacted over 1.4 million individuals by helping launch over 95,000 small businesses in some of the world’s most economically and socially fragile communities. Our programs currently operate in nine countries in the Global South, including three of the top five most impoverished nations.
Five Talents has offices in England, Kenya, and the United States. We are looking for a talented professional to manage our US-based communications and help advance our mission, elevate our brand, and grow our donor base to support a major expansion of our programming.
Job Description
The Communications Manager will develop and implement the organization’s external messaging. The Communications Manager will strategize, create, and publish content including social media posts, marketing brochures, event invitations, fundraising appeals, reports, program storytelling, emails, and webpages. The Communications Manager will be responsible for both the text and the graphical layout for these materials. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills to produce well-written and inspiring copy, an aesthetic instinct for design of materials, and the strategic thinking and organizational ability to manage a comprehensive communications plan.
This individual will be responsible for developing the outward voice and branded presence of Five Talents through oversight of communication channels including social media, email marketing, and printed materials. The Communications Manager will report to the Director of Development and work closely with the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Develop and publish appealing and inspiring communications for donors and the general public including social media posts (1-2x weekly), marketing collateral, story-centric emails (1-2x weekly), fundraising appeals, and our annual report.
- Create and execute comprehensive communications strategies, including for events and fundraising appeals, in coordination with the Director of Development.
- Design and edit graphic material for social posts, emails, and general marketing materials.
- Manage the Five Talents website, social media channels, email marketing platform, Google Analytics, Google Ads accounts, and search-engine optimization and analytics.
- Edit short video footage for social posts and program updates to our donors.
- Project manage fundraising efforts including direct mail and Giving Tuesday campaigns.
- Other communications assignments as needed.
Essential Qualifications
- Growing Christian faith; we are a faith-based organization.
- Experience and expertise with a web CMS (WordPress, Squarespace), email marketing platforms (MailChimp, Get Response, Constant Contact), and graphic design software (Canva, Adobe InDesign).
- Strong writing and storytelling skills; strong graphics composition and editing skills; ability to put together compelling messaging.
- Understanding of current marketing trends for nonprofits.
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Positive attitude and sense of humor.
- IT skills in managing Google drives, Microsoft Office setup, etc.
- Experience in a nonprofit setting and/or in fundraising communications.
- Experience with CRM databases such as Raiser's Edge NXT.
- Experience working internationally or with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, exempt position at the Five Talents office in Falls Church, Virginia. Currently, staff work two days in the office and three days remotely. This role may include occasional international travel to visit Five Talents programs.
The expected salary range is $55,000 - $65,000 based on the level of experience of the person filling the role. The position includes 15 days of annual leave and eight days of personal leave, in addition to holidays, along with an IRA savings plan and health/dental insurance.
