On June 15th, the Seneca Nation honors the late Calvin "Kelly" John, born on this day in 1920, as part of the Seneca Nation's President's Day observances. John, who passed away on October 8, 2004, served four terms as President (1946, 1950, 1966, and 1990) and held positions as Treasurer and Councilor. His leadership was instrumental during the negotiation of the 99-year Salamanca Lease Agreement in the early 90s. We extend our gratitude to the current leader, Rickey L. Armstrong Sr, and all of the past presidents for their dedicated service.

The Seneca Nation held a celebratory PRIDE flag raising on June 3rd to support LBGTAIQ2S+ community members, including those who identify as Two-Spirit. Two-Spirit refers to a person who embodies both masculine and feminine spirits. This term, often embraced by some Indigenous communities, covers various aspects of same-sex attraction, gender identity, and gender variance. It originated in 1990 at the Third Annual Inter-Tribal Native American/First Nations Gay and Lesbian American Conference in Winnipeg, Canada, reflecting unique Indigenous cultural perspectives. This #PRIDEMonth and throughout the year, we honor the contributions of our LGBTQIA2S+ team members and community. Our dedication to recognizing these contributions and our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion remain cornerstones of the culture at Seneca Holdings.

This May at Seneca Holdings, we proudly celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. We honor the enduring contributions and rich history of Asians and Pacific Islanders across the United States. During the 19th century, as the transcontinental railroad was being constructed, thousands of Chinese laborers worked alongside Irish immigrants and Native Americans to complete this monumental project. This massive undertaking not only transformed America's landscape but also laid the groundwork for significant cultural exchanges and collaborations among these diverse groups.
