The Director of Data Engineering will lead and enhance our Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the financial services industry, preferably within the payments sector, and will be passionate about leveraging generative AI to drive operational efficiency. • Leadership: Manage and build high-performance Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in a remote-first environment
• Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to enhance data processing pipelines, ensuring high security, efficiency, and resiliency.
• Integration: Seamlessly integrate Data Engineering and Machine Learning Engineering into the broader engineering function, aligning with overall business objectives
• Technology: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data infrastructure using platforms like Snowflake, Adtran, Databricks, SQL, COSMOS DB, Apache Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, DBT (Data Build Tool) and cloud data services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• AI Champion: Advocate for generative AI to drive operational efficiency and innovation within the team and organization
• Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to ensure data models and strategies meet business needs and regulatory requirements
• Mentorship: Mentor and develop team members, promoting professional growth and building a high-performing remote team

What You’ll Bring To The Team

• Proven leadership experience in data engineering and machine learning engineering roles, with extensive experience leading remote-first teams
• Strong background in the financial services industry, preferably within the payments sector
• Deep understanding of data processing, security, and resiliency best practices
• Expertise in building highly secure and resilient data pipelines using platforms such as Snowflake, Adtran, Databricks, SQL, COSMOS DB, Apache Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, and cloud data services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Demonstrated experience in uplifting processes and procedures to enhance team performance and operational efficiency
• Passion for leveraging generative AI to drive innovation and efficiency
• Exceptional people leadership skills, with a track record of developing and mentoring high-performing teams
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a remote environment
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field is required
• Master’s degree in a relevant field is highly preferred
• Doctoral degree in a relevant field is a strong plus

The Pay Range for this position: $230,000 - $275,000 based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
