Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations

Position Summary:

Working in conjunction with the Vice President for Advancement, this position is responsible for organizing and managing all aspects of the St. Xavier Annual Fund, which provides critical operating support to all areas of the school, and other annual giving programs as needed. The Director will coordinate and conduct both personal and direct marketing solicitations of key St. Xavier constituencies to ensure the continued growth of the St. X Annual Fund in both dollars and donors.

The Director will also develop and manage a comprehensive alumni relations program. The Director should increase alumni participation and support through strong communication, personal interaction, and events in order to encourage long-term engagement with the St. X community.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement an effective annual giving program to increase both gift income and donor participation.
• Spend quality time in face-to-face settings representing the school with individual alumni, parents, and other friends of the school.
• Solicit key Annual Fund leadership prospects face-to-face as assigned.
• Plan and execute a robust Alumni Relations and Annual Fund annual schedule of events and activities, including but not limited to reunions, phonathons, young alumni events, general alumni events, direct mail communication, and digital communication.
• Oversee production of all annual giving materials in collaboration with the Vice President of Advancement and Director of Communications and Marketing.
• Provide Annual Fund progress reports as requested.
• Budget for yearly annual giving and alumni relations activities.
• Work with other members of the Advancement Team on strategies for acquiring new donors and elevating existing donors for the Annual Fund.
• Work with other members of the Advancement Team on evaluation of existing alumni relations programs and possible creation of new ones.
• Work with the larger school community to foster and support opportunities for alumni engagement.
• Oversee Development Chairman program and a significant number of other student volunteers in their areas of involvement with Annual Fund and alumni relations activities.
  
  
  

Skills and Other Required Competencies: 

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of St. Xavier High School’s Catholic and Jesuit mission.
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in annual giving, alumni relations, sales, or another externally oriented field. Previous fundraising success is a plus.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings.
• Work as a team and manage multiple tasks, details, and support staff.
• Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Continuous-improvement mindset.
• Positively represent the culture and values of St. Xavier High School and the Advancement Department.
• Work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
• Strong organizational skills: ability to multi-task and set priorities.
• Work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to respond with sensitivity and awareness to those with diverse cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, and attitudes.
• Computer literacy with a solid knowledge of word processing, and spreadsheets, and knowledge and experience with donor/customer management software; Raiser’s Edge experience highly preferred.
• Social media knowledge, experience, and understanding is highly desirable.
