Director of Annual Giving and Events

Summary

Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Director of Annual Giving and Events is a professional in the field of philanthropy. Operating independently within defined goals and standards, the Director leads the Concord Hospital Trust Events Team members and oversees the strategic coordination of all Trust events. Plans, organizes, and directs all ongoing and special annual giving programs for Concord Hospital Trust by performing the following duties personally or through staff and volunteers. This position is the liaison to the Concord Hospital Trust Board Philanthropy Committee. The Director manages a portfolio of responsibilities including, but not limited to, corporate cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, special event execution, individual donor and prospect relationship management, including cultivation and solicitation using a moves management approach. The Director of Annual Giving and Events responds positively to annual financial and programmatic goals, developing and implementing dedicated activities to achieve those goals. Along with the Events and Trust Team, the Director trains and manages community volunteers to support the work of the Trust, assuring the most effective use of human resources and a high degree of volunteer engagement and satisfaction.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s Preferred.

None required.

Experience

Five to ten years dedicated fundraising experience in a variety of roles that represent progressively increased responsibility including a proven track record of successful fundraising event management. Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of donors and donor prospects, moving them through the cycle of giving to solicitation, onto stewardship and sustained and increased giving. Documented outcomes resulting from personal, one-on-one asking for contributions. Previous staff or volunteer management experience required. Effective interpersonal relations, communication and presentation skills both written and verbal. Ability to model a highly professional presentation in all circumstances and, especially, to donors and the public. Microsoft Office experience required and Blackbaud Raisers Edge experience preferred. Previous prospect research and management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Annual Giving

  • Prepares strategic plan with short and long range annual goals to meet institutional funding objectives. Enlists charitable support from members of institution, staff, the governing body, and volunteer organizations.
  • Manages a personal portfolio of up to 50 leadership giving donors and prospects creating and implementing individual relationship management plans to cultivate and solicit donors to new and increased contributions.
  • Establishes annual giving policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Plans and coordinates annual fund campaigns in all mediums, mail, telephone, face-to-face, and social media.
  • Prepares, administers and adheres to annual fund budget.
  • Uses data analytics and individual prospect research to identify potential contributors to special project funds and ongoing operations.
  • Assigns responsibilities for personal cultivation solicitation and stewardship to members of staff, volunteers, and governing body according to special interests or capabilities.
  • Develops public relations materials to enhance institutional image and promote annual giving program.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of all annual giving staff, including special events personnel.
  • Develops and implements annual donor recognition program.
  • Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing annual support from individuals and businesses.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates activities and performance of staff engaged in maintaining contribution records preparing letters of appreciation to be sent to contributors.
  • Negotiates agreements with vendor representatives in support of annual giving.

Special Events Management

  • Lead and oversee the coordination of the special events teams:
  • Support event development and strategies to enhance events.
  • Lead benefactors discussions and planning in collaboration with philanthropy officers.
  • Lead strategic planning for major sponsorships.
  • Lead a culture of the best practices in special events fundraising to create efficiencies, improve fundraising margins and contribute to building a stronger culture of philanthropy.
  • Lead and support planning future events, trends, problems and opportunities and exercises sound judgment. Evaluate reasonable risk-taking opportunities and develop creative solutions, new ways of thinking and solving problems.
  • In partnership with Grants and Prospect Research Manager, build Benefactors Circle and corporate sponsorships including corporate sponsorships of events.
  • Lead and/or participate in collaboration on special initiatives with the aim of developing, streamlining, and aligning systems and processes in order to achieve shared goals.
  • Manage a suite of reports and develop a robust fundraising dashboard that provides insights on fundraising performance and forecasting in order to assist and inform fundraisers and senior leadership. Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual events reporting process to ensure accurate and current fundraising events reporting.
  • Manage revenue and expense budgets to support assigned philanthropy activities, in accordance with Trust goals and adopted efficiency benchmarks.
  • Creates and executes special events, fundraising and stewardship, to produce agreed upon outcomes, managing all details and vendor relationships independently.
  • Lead team who oversees golf tournaments, P4P, RnR, social events, Bridge to Recovery Walk and all internal Trust events.
  • Collaborate with Trust team to coordinate External Fundraising events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises two employees in the Concord Hospital Trust Office.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Database Operations

  • Support Trust team regarding recommendations to electronic fundraising tools and donor management tools, making recommendations on system enhancements and how to best utilize resources these resources to increase revenue streams.
  • Recommend processes and policies to enhance database operations including gift entry, grants and pledges, actions, coding, and invoicing.
  • Creates and implements a variety of activities within an annual operating plan to support overall Trust goals and benchmarks. Leads these activities for annual giving and events team.

Advancement

  • Manage revenue and expense budgets to support assigned philanthropy activities, in accordance with Trust goals and adopted efficiency benchmarks.
  • Creates and implements a variety of activities within an annual operating plan to support overall Trust goals and benchmarks.
  • Recruits, trains and oversees volunteers associated with assigned philanthropy activities, producing engaged, satisfied ambassadors on behalf of the Trust.
  • Independently crafts all communications required to execute on identified responsibilities and goals.
  • Participates in Trust team activities to cultivate, solicit and recognize donors.
  • Lead Women’s Giving Circle program and events.
  • Oversee staff who lead the Benefactor’s Circle program, sponsorships and events. Ensure collaboration with all Trust team.
