Position Description
Youth Chance High School is a county community school that is operated through a partnership between the Embarcadero YMCA, San Francisco Unified School District, and the San Francisco Department of Education. Our school specializes in working with system impacted youth who are 4th and 5th year seniors. Most of the students have severely fractured relationships with education, academic institutions, and how they see and experience themselves as learners. The school recognizes the need to support ‘the whole student’; considering not only a student’s academic needs, but also the bio/psycho/social needs of high school youth. In the classroom, teachers utilize a trauma informed lens and prioritize the students’ social emotional wellbeing in addition to their academic progress as part of a holistic classroom experience. Students can graduate from the program with a SFUSD high school diploma.
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Alternative Education, the Director of Youth Chance is responsible for supervising the operations and day-to-day functions of Youth Chance High School. The Director will work closely with the San Francisco Unified School District and County Office of Education (SFUSD-COE) school team stationed at Youth Chance. The Director will have direct oversight and supervision of the school’s Y staff and manage the daily functions of the whole school team. This position will co-lead/facilitate staff meetings with the SFCOE assistant principal, attend Director meetings and additional meetings as it relates to the position and/or school. This position will support managing school culture and climate and be responsive to staff workplace dynamics. The Director is responsible for responding to student crises and implementing behavioral interventions as needed; this position will also uphold school & district policies and procedures. The Director will be responsible for the fiscal management of the grant funding. This position supports the Wellness Team (school social worker and site coordinator) in managing referrals and the student intake process.
Salary range: $80,000 to $85,000 annually
