Summary:

The Electrical Engineer I has foundational knowledge and undertakes varied tasks with supervision, utilizing analytical techniques to address diverse challenges. This role is part of the Electrical Engineering team responsible for the operation and maintenance of electrical substations, collection systems, and major electrical components within the North American portfolio of renewable energy assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data to identify trends and system events for reporting and process improvement.
  • Develop processes and procedures to safely and efficiently operate and maintain renewable energy facilities for “Best in Class Performance.”
  • Provide technical support for electrical equipment issues at supported renewable energy facilities.
  • Enhance the power performance of electricity generating and collection system equipment.
  • Generate reports for management regarding system status and events.
  • Assist senior engineers with complex problem-solving and analysis.
  • Assess system conditions, predict issues, and implement strategies to mitigate or minimize impacts on renewable power projects managed by the System Operation Center.
  • Stay current with renewable generation technology and professional development by participating in training opportunities and reviewing industry publications.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on condition monitoring equipment to ensure the health and reliability of substation equipment.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis to accurately identify failure modes and causes.
  • Maintain and complete required documentation and records accurately.
  • Keep up with necessary training certifications and proficiencies.
  • Plan and oversee switching and tagging for office and field personnel in the operation and restoration of renewable energy assets.
  • Adhere to applicable regulatory reliability standards and compliance requirements, including market rules and NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for relevant NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
  • Experience in utility or power plant operations and maintenance is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to learn from experienced engineers.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical theory and concepts.
  • Continuous commitment to safe operations, serving as an active role model and resource to the organization.
  • Knowledge of protective relay applications and software (Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), GE Multilin Enervista UR, etc.).
  • Capability to apply mathematical concepts.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)).
  • Ability to communicate detailed information accurately to internal/external customers.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 300 feet.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30 percent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
