  • Meet Chris, Day Ahead Energy Marketer at OPPD. 👋 Chris started as a Real Time Energy Marketer before moving to his current role six years ago. Drawn to the dynamic and challenging world of Energy Marketing and Trading (EM&T), he found the perfect fit for his skills after researching and talking with colleagues. A typical day for Chris starts early, around 5:30 a.m. He checks weather forecasts and other data to plan the next day's energy needs. By coordinating with plant supervisors and using fuel prices, Chris helps OPPD optimize generating assets in a competitive energy market. He appreciates a fast-paced environment filled with planning, data entries and double-checking market submissions. Chris enjoys the constantly changing nature of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Market, which brings new challenges. His ability to improve workflows gives him more time for analysis and strategy. His role is crucial to OPPD, as he makes important decisions using data and past experiences. Chris' advice for those considering a career in energy marketing: "Don’t give up or get discouraged if you don’t land the position on your first try. I applied more than once before getting my position."

  • We're celebrating #PrideMonth by shining a light on our LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. 🌈 Meet Barb, Manager of Business Relationship Management at OPPD. 👋 In her role, Barb and her team strategize across the district to understand the business needs and help develop OPPD's technology roadmap. Celebrating Pride Month is important to Barb because it fosters an environment where individuals feel accepted and supported to express their true selves. She's witnessed the positive impact of people feeling seen and accepted, knowing they have allies who support them. Barb believes an inclusive and diverse work environment is essential because everyone's life experiences provide them with a unique perspective of the world. These perspectives translate into the workplace by offering alternative approaches for generating new ideas and resolving issues. When a company like OPPD embraces inclusivity and diversity, it attracts exceptional talent, which benefits everyone. Her advice? "Never assume that people know you are an ally. Be public and vocal so people know you accept and love them exactly as they are."

  • Last week, OPPD representatives attended the Vietnam Veterans Memorial opening ceremony in Papillion. The memorial honors the 396 Nebraska troops killed in action in Vietnam, as well as four who died in a training accident before being deployed. We are proud to have contributed to creating a memorial that pays tribute to the fallen. 💙🤍❤️ The memorial is located south of the SumTur Amphitheater near South 108th Street.
