Health Educator

Job Description: This full-time benefited position (40 hrs/week) will assist with coordinating and implementing grants and projects in Suwannee River AHEC’s Healthy Communities Department.


Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• Coordinate the Federal AHEC Grant

o Identify opportunities for community-based service-learning and other experiential learning activities for the AHEC Scholars Program (ASP) within our service counties

o Assist scholar students with projects associated with the Social Determinants of Health, Behavioral Health Integration, Practice Transformation, Interdisciplinary Education, Emerging Health Issues and Cultural Competency learning modules

o Devise marketing strategies for recruiting health professions students for the ASP

o Manage the review process of student applicants

o Conduct presentations about ASP for interested students and faculty

o Liaison with clinical and community-based sites for placement of AHEC Scholars for experiential learning activities

o Support the statewide network with Google Classroom IT and course material uploads

o Collaborate in the development of ASP curriculum and associated materials

o Manage the AHEC Center’s Google Classroom, including enrolling students and uploading local activities.

o Track and grade student assignments, quizzes, projects, and other assessments in Google Classroom

o Support ASP participants and respond to participant inquiries

o Participate in the Florida AHEC Consortium’s conference calls, meetings, and trainings

o Support ASP evaluation efforts, including the one-year post graduation follow-up

• Implement Federal Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator Grant

o Conduct outreach to promote the Health Insurance Navigator Program

o Establish and maintain relationships with businesses and community partners

o Complete required Navigator Trainings and stay updated on health insurance information.

o Use scheduling and data software to support and report Navigator activities.

o Interview uninsured families and assist eligible individuals with online health insurance applications.

o Conduct both virtual and face-to-face enrollment sessions at community sites within targeted geographic areas.

• Assist with Special Projects and seeking new grant opportunities

• Represent SRAHEC Healthy Communities Department at community meetings, health fairs, and other public events

• Participate in local, regional, statewide, and national forums supporting the AHEC mission

• Fulfill administrative responsibilities such as timesheets, travel reports, quarterly reports, staff meetings, as well as prepare and/or procure (along with other staff members) marketing literature and/or materials


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health education, public health, or social service from an accredited university

preferred.

• At least two years of experience working with and/or mentoring interns/volunteers/students

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

• Inclined to think and work independently, but also work harmoniously with a team.

• Self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks, and work well under pressure.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Effective communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences.

• Proficiency in computer-based applications and virtual communication tools.

• Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to community service.

• Must be tobacco-free for 6 months prior to employment date and remain tobacco-free for duration of

employment.

• Must be skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite, computers, LCD projector, other related electronic

equipment for presentations, and be able to lift and carry such equipment.

• Must have reliable transportation and valid drivers license for attending events, meetings, and groups in

12-County service area (Company car may be available for travel from office)
