Position Description
Junior, Assistant, or Associate Specialist – Huang Lab
The laboratory of Dr. Eric Huang in the Department of Pathology at UCSF has an immediate opening at the level of Junior, Assistant, or Associate Specialist. The incumbent in this position will have the primary responsibility in managing a large mouse colony. In addition, the incumbent will work with current lab members, including postdoctoral scholars and/or graduate students, to investigate the role of glia in neural development and/or neurodegeneration. The incumbent will participate in studies that use mouse models and human brain tissues to understand the contributions of glia, including microglia and astrocytes, using primary cultures, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, and microscopy.

Required Qualifications
- For Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in the process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in biomedical sciences or related field or at least four years of research experience.
- For Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in the process of obtaining) a master’s degree in biomedical sciences or related field or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience.
- For Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess (or in the process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in biomedical sciences or related field or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.
- Candidates must meet the qualifications by the time of appointment.
- Applicant’s materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.
- For Specialists appointed at the Associate rank, PhD in biomedical sciences is preferred.
- Prior experience working with small rodents (mice)
- Prior research experience in molecular/cellular biology, neuroscience or histology.
- Histopathology analyses of mouse and human brain, including Image analyses and quantification.
- Knowledge in computer programs, such as Microsoft Office.
- Data analyses and statistics from advanced microscopy.
